How the Early Years works..

Getting to know your child’s setting.. Where do we start: Welcome afternoon (today) and our follow up workshops on Monday 10th and 17th July, 1pm onwards. School welcome pack Visits and communication with previous educational setting.

What will my child’s learning day look like? 8.45 Doors will open 8.45-9.00 Morning welcome and writing practice 9.00-9.30 Literacy 9.30-11.00 Continuous provision 11.00-11.10 Tidy up 11.10 – 11.30 Phonics 11.30 – 11.45 Story 11.45 -12.45 Lunch time 12.45-1.00 Mathematics 1.00-2.15 2.15 – 2.25 2.25 – 2.45 Guided reading 2.45 – 3.00 3.00 Home time

Notes: If your child is late: report to the office and sign your child into school using the interactive screen. If your child is absent: ring the school number and press 1 to report a child absence. Lunchtime – all children in reception are entitled to a free school meal, however, you can provide your child with a packed lunch if you wish.

Behaviour system Smiley face and sad cloud. Give me 5 No lates all week – be in school on time each day. 100% attendance all week. No stages for behaviour all week. Homework completed and returned to school (including reading) PE kit in school and full school uniform (including correct school shoes and tie.) – prize weekly + end of term treat for all children who receive give me 5. PLEASE PUT NAMES IN ALL ITEMS OF CLOTHING Other information School uniform •Grey skirt or grey trousers •White shirt • Blue sweat-shirt, cardigan or jumper with Holy Spirit logo • School tie (elastic tie for infants) • White or grey socks • Black shoes (not boots) PE uniform (needed everyday) • Blue and white PE top with Holy Spirit logo • Blue shorts • Black slip-on pumps •Trainers for outdoor games Hairstyles All long hair should be tied back. We do not allow any extreme hairstyles’ eg. tramlines, boys’ pony tails, Mohican or partially shaved styles. If your child’s hairstyle is unacceptable for school you will be invited to discuss with the Headteacher. Jewellery not allowed to be worn in school. If your child arrives wearing anything other than a watch or small stud earrings the item will be removed for health and safety reasons. The school is not responsible for the loss or damage of any valuable items brought into school. Nail varnish is not allowed. PLEASE PUT NAMES IN ALL ITEMS OF CLOTHING

Book bags must be in school everyday. Book bags& homework Book bags must be in school everyday. Inside your child’s book bag they will have; A reading book Homework book (either mathematics or home diary) Tricky word flash cards Number flash cards You must read with your child at least 3 times a week Books and homework will be changed every Thursday. How can you help: Weekly to do list: Read with your child Complete piece of homework (1 week time scale) Practice reading and writing tricky words (a new tricky word will be added to your child’s bag each week.) Practice number recognition using flash cards.
