Chicago Midwinter Meeting To Launch at the Chicago Midwinter Meeting

What is it? ENVY is a dual-curing, self-adhesive resin cement. It is used for the adhesive cementation of indirect (meaning made in the lab or chair-side) all-ceramic, composite, or metal restorations and for posts. When using ENVY, bonding and conditioning of the tooth structure are not necessary Indirect restorations = fabricated outside the mouth.

breaking through into a new market ALL GP’s - 160,000 GP’s and they ALL can use this! Average number of uses per kit = 10 GP can go through 10 procedures in about a week Just one of your GP’s can use up to 50+ units per year!!!

Key terms to know

Key terms to know Abutment: The supporting tooth or teeth of a bridge The "abutment teeth" referring to the teeth supporting the bridge

Key terms to know Bridges: Are literally fabricated to bridge the gap created by one or more missing teeth. A bridge is made up of two or more crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap.

Key terms to know Cingulum Rest: a prepared rest area on the cingulum of an anterior tooth or crown.

Key terms to know EtchingTotal-etch (etch and rinse): requires a separate phosphoric acid step to etch the enamel and dentin, a subsequent rinse, and application of primer and bond (primer and bond may be in one).

Key terms to know EtchingSelf-etch technique: systems have an acidic resin which etches and primes without the need for etching or rinsing, and then there will be a subsequent application of bond.

Key terms to know Inlay: An inlay is usually an indirect restoration (filling) consisting of a solid substance (as gold, porcelain or a cured composite resin) fitted to a cavity in a tooth and cemented into place. A dental inlay fills the space in between the cusps, or rounded edges, at the center of the tooth's surface.

Key terms to know Onlay: The dental onlay works like an inlay but covers one or more cusps or the entire biting surface of the tooth. Because of their extensive coverage, dental onlays are sometimes referred to as "partial crowns."

Key terms to know Lithium Disilicate: glass ceramics used in the production of an all-ceramic crown (product example: EMAX):

Key terms to know Luting: A material placed between tooth structure and a prosthesis to keep it in place

Key terms to know Maryland Bridge: A Maryland bridge consists of a metal framework with a porcelain tooth baked onto the front of the framework. The framework then ends up as a false tooth with two wings on the side.

Key terms to know PFM: (Porcelain Fused to Metal): A crown fabricated by porcelain covering covering a metal substructure (gold or metal alloy).

Key terms to know Pontic: The "dummy tooth" that fills the space in the gap of the bridge.

Key terms to know Resin-nano ceramic: Nano-ceramic artificial resin material used for CAD/CAM restorations (product example: Lava)

Key terms to know Silane: a chemical composition containing compounds whose molecules contain functional groups that bond with both organic and inorganic materials. A silane coupling agent acts as a sort of intermediary which bonds organic materials to inorganic materials. Organic Material Inorganic R Si X

Key terms to know Veneers: (sometimes called porcelain veneers or dental porcelain laminates) are wafer-thin, custom-made shells tooth-colored materials designed to cover the front surface of teeth to improve your appearance. Veneers can be made from porcelain or from resin composite materials.

Key terms to know Zinc phosphate: A widely used dental cement material which has been in the market for a very long time. It was commonly used to cement crowns, bridges, etc to metal.

Key terms to know Zirconia: an all-ceramic crown formed by white crystalline oxide made from the metal zirconium

] Current cements Conventional cements Zinc phosphate Polycarboxylate Glass ionomer Resin-modified glass ionomer Hybrid cements Compomer Adhesive resin Composite resin cements Self-adhesive resin

Porcelain fused to metal (PFM) CROWN MATERIALS Gold alloys Base metal alloys Porcelain fused to metal (PFM) All ceramic Composite Resin Resin Nano Ceramics Hybrid composite Gold crowns are available as full crowns, Inlays, onlays Generally chromium or nickel. Why do some full-zirconia restorations come off in service? Most of the self-etch and self-adhesive resin cements are not retaining their chemical bond to dentin adequately during service, and some of the zirconia restorations come off in service. Why are crowns coming off? Gordon Christensen. Dental Economics;Sept. 2015.

Advantages Save Time and Money - Numerous restoration uses without bonding - Use for inlays, onlays, crowns, bridges, and fiber post cementation

Advantages High retention on multiple surfaces - Flexible use, high retention of enamel, dentin, porcelain fused to metal (PFM), zironia, lithium dislocate, gold, etc.

Advantages How can we achieve high retention on multiple surfaces?

Example of a inlay cemented with ENVY

Let’s concentrate on the interface of ENVY to Enamel, Zirconia and Dentin

ENVY molecules contain multiple types of adhesion promoters

Adhesion promoters that strongly attach to Zirconia

Adhesion promoters that strongly attach to Enamel

Adhesion promoters that strongly attach to Dentin

These adhesion promoters bind to receptor sites on their corresponding substrates

Upon setting the molecules bind to each other and change from hydrophilic to hydrophobic

The result is a solid bond between all surfaces!

Unsurpassed Retention MPa

Why does Envy have such high retention to all these surfaces?

Transformation upon setting Mix / Express Envy Cement Hydrophilic Adapts to moisture of the tooth surface Polymerization and Neutralization Reaction Hydrophobic Low expansion Low solubility High long-term stability

Neutral ph Central to Envy’s self-adhesive chemistry is a rapid rise in initial pH and subsequent neutralization upon setting. This active change in the cement from hydrophilic to hydrophobic allows for maximum adaptability to tooth structure and ensures a superior long term bond to a variety of substrates. The stability of ENVY cement is enhanced by its ability to quickly become pH neutral and hydrophobic.

Advantages Improved hydrolytic stability (the ability of a product to withstand chemical reaction with water) - Ensures high retention over extended time periods

Advantages Virtually no post-op sensitivity Traditional cements and bonding agents remove the smear layer and open the dentin fully open the dentin tubules. ENVY leaves a “dentin plug” and bonds to the calcium ions in the dentin through the smear layer.

Advantages Easy Clean Up - Tack and wave curing for fast and easy cleanup.

Advantages Color fast “proprietary” initiator system - Color stability to extend the life of the esthetic restoration
