2 Guidelines for tooth preparation
Preparation guidelines Zirconia Alumina Titanium Base Metal Alloy Cobalt Chromium IPS e.max CAD ® Please refer to the Preparation Guidelines provided by Nobel Biocare IPS e.max® is a registered trademark of Ivoclar Vivadent AG Disclaimer: Some products may not be regulatory cleared/released for sale in all markets. 3 Guidelines for tooth preparation
Tooth preparation – general principles to follow Chamfer for Zirconia or Alumina and shoulder preparation for lithium disilicate Round edges Provide adequate space for the coping and the veneering material Establish tapered axial walls The ideal total occlusal convergence is 3-4 degrees The tooth ideally is anatomically prepared, i.e. occlusal surfaces can be angled according to their original natural form. This allows the reconstruction of the original anatomy with a uniform ceramic thickness. 6 – 8° Adequate occlusal space 120 – 140° Rounded edges Chamfer margin for Zirconia and Alumina Rounded shoulder margin for lithium disilicate ceramics

4 Guidelines for tooth preparation
Tooth preparation – general principles to avoid û Avoid sharp edges , undercuts and grooves Avoid sharp angles on the occlusal surface Avoid deep fossa/cavity Avoid preparations that are excessively tapered or too close to parallel û û û û Incorrect chamfer margin û A knife-edge preparation is not recommended as it can lead to the restoration´s breakage

5 Guidelines for tooth preparation
NobelProcera™ Crown preparation for Zirconia and Alumina mm ≥1.5 mm ≥1.0 mm Anterior NobelProcera Crown Eliminate sharp edges, undercuts and grooves Minimal coping thickness*: 0.4 mm *Consider adequate space for optimal veneering layer (0.7 – 1.2mm). 6 Guidelines for tooth preparation
NobelProcera™ Crown preparation for Zirconia and Alumina ≥1.0 mm ≥1.5 mm mm Posterior NobelProcera Crown Eliminate sharp angles on occlusal surface and deep fossa/cavity Minimal coping thickness*: Zirconia 0.7 mm / Alumina 0.6mm *Consider adequate space for optimal veneering layer (0.7 – 1.2mm). 7 Guidelines for tooth preparation
NobelProcera™ Bridge preparation for Zirconia and Alumina ≥3.0 mm Anterior and posterior NobelProcera Bridge Prepare the teeth to allow a bridge with a 3 mm connector height Excessive divergence of preparation angles hinder the bridge’s path of insertion Minimal bridge framework thickness*: 0.6mm *Consider adequate space for optimal veneering layer (0.7 – 1.2mm). Source: VITA Zahnfabrik AG; VITA VM*9 and VITA VM*7 working instructions, 09/11

8 Guidelines for tooth preparation
Preparation for full-contour crown IPS e.max® CAD by NobelProcera ≥1.5 mm ≥1.2 mm ≥1.0 mm ≥1.5 mm ≥1.0 mm Anterior and posterior NobelProcera Crown Prepare a shoulder with rounded inner edges or a deep chamfer Width of the shoulder/chamfer margin at least 1.0mm IPS e.max® is a registered trademark of Ivoclar Vivadent AG Disclaimer: Some products may not be regulatory cleared/released for sale in all markets.
