MIDDLE SCHOOL COURSES FOR HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT* The high school mathematics, science and second language courses taken in middle school will help fulfill high school graduation requirements. These courses will NOT count in the students’ GPAs once they reach high school but WILL count towards the 28 credits needed for graduation. They WILL also serve as the requirements and prerequisites needed.

Career and Technical Education Career Clusters

Career and Technical Education Be a COMPLETER! If you complete a four course sequence in a CTE pathway/cluster, with one course being a level 2 course, then your CTE concentration will be noted on your transcript and you will be eligible to take the Workkeys Job Skills Assessment.

DUAL ENROLLMENT College Courses for HS/College Credit Free of Charge for Juniors and Seniors who have a 3.0 GPA or higher and have met placement test score requirements 4 COA courses could be considered a concentration

REQUIRED TESTING SAT During/After PSAT-Given in the 10th – 11th grades through selective classes. Pre-ACT – To prepare for the ACT. All 10th graders will take. NC FINAL EXAMS – Given as an evaluation at the end of most core classes. Count 20% of Grade. Workkeys- given to all seniors who have completed a concentration in CTE. ASVAB- required for military enlistment. END OF COURSE TESTS (worth 20% of grade-no exemptions) Biology English II Common Core I SAT During/After Common Core III ACT All 11th graders will take. CTE End of Course (worth 20% of grade-no exemptions)

ATTENDANCE POLICY Attendance is taken in each class. If you are absent, you will have 3 days to make up work upon return to school. It is the student’s responsibility to meet with the teacher to make arrangements for make up work. Students must bring a note to keep on record Students must be present for at least ½ of a class period to be counted present for the class. Attendance is extremely important to academic success.

Based on NC High School Athletic Association policy, an athlete must: ATHLETIC ELIGIBILITY Based on NC High School Athletic Association policy, an athlete must: have passed 70% credits courses that semester in order to be eligible for sports. (4 out of 5) 8th grade courses do not count towards this…all students are eligible 1st semester of their 9th grade year---FRESH START!

DRIVING ELIGIBILITY North Carolina state law requires a student to be passing 4 of 5 of courses attempted in order to receive a driving eligibility certificate or keep their driving permit or license.

IMPORTANT DATES Schedules will be given out during the Freshman Orientation Program in August. During the Summer Ms. Pruden and Mrs. Ellis are in their offices on a limited basis. Parents may consult with either counselor about schedule conflicts. Freshman Orientation will be held a week before school begins. Students will meet their teachers, receive their schedules, and tour the school. Time/Date TBA.
