"The Future-Ready Core will help ensure that students graduate with the academic foundation they need for success in the global economy“ This set of graduation requirements began with the class that entered 9th grade in the school year—present.

3 English: 4 credits English I, II, III, & IV

4 CHS English Courses for Creating Your 4-Year Plan

5 Social Studies: 3* credits for students entering 9th grade before 2012-13
World History Civics and Economics U.S. History

6 CHS Social Studies Courses for Creating Your 4-Year Plan

7 Social Studies: 4 credits for students entering 9th grade in 2012-13 and beyond
World History American History I American History II Civics and Economics

8 CHS Social Studies Courses for Creating Your 4-Year Plan

9 Science: 3 credits Biology Earth OR AP Environmental Science
Physical Science OR Chemistry OR Physics

10 CHS Science Courses for Creating Your 4-Year Plan

11 Math: 4 credits* Traditional math progression for students entering 9th grade prior to the school year Foundations of Algebra and Introductory Math Algebra I Geometry Algebra II 4th Math Course to be aligned with the student's post high school plans *** In the rare instance that a student is unable to complete the math requirements, another plan will be developed, pending principal approval and teacher documentation.

15 World Languages Not required for graduation, but required for admission to the UNC system and most 4-year colleges & universities. 3 world languages are offered at CHS

16 Electives: 6 credits 2 elective credits of any combination from either Career and Technical Education (CTE), Arts Education, OR World Language. 4 elective credits strongly recommended (4 course concentration) from one of the following: Career and Technical Education (CTE)*** JROTC Arts Education (e.g. band, chorus, theater arts, visual arts) Any other subject area (e.g. social studies, science, mathematics, English)
