Strategic Plan AHLA Hospitals and Health Systems Practice Group 2014/2015 Fiscal Year Strategic Plan for New Initiatives DRAFT May 5, 2014

Practice Group Objectives PG Mission: Address the legal, financial, and operational issues raised by healthcare business strategies and transactions from the perspective of hospitals and health systems, including those involving nonprofit, for-profit, public, and private hospitals and health systems, physicians and physician organizations, ancillary services providers, for-profit and non-profit affiliates, financial institutions and authorities, pharmaceutical and medical products manufacturers and vendors, and managed care organizations. 2015 PG Vision: Greater Membership Involvement in Agenda and Activities Continued Transparency of Leadership Direction Collaboration with other PGs to enhance programming Achievement of 90%+ of Strategic Goals

HHS PG Initiatives Refine Leadership Development Program Member Input Initiatives Membership Drive with law firms and others Member Calls with Leadership Programming Initiatives Publication initiatives Website/Listserv initiatives Enhanced Affinity Group/Task Force Activities Continue Task Force focused on ACOs Continue success of AG’s (PHS, RE, FMV, ERM Task Force)

Goal 1: Refine Leadership Development Program Objective: Provide an opportunity for members to develop leadership skills and experience through observation, interaction and project participation with current Practice Group leadership. Strategy: Increase exposure to Vice Chairs and projects through two 6 month rotations per Program year. Measures: Gain an awareness of Practice Group roles and responsibilities and gain project skills and experience by working closely with HHS PG Vice Chairs Work with publications VC on Value Based Purchasing White Paper Work with website VC and Social Media Coordinator to improve HHS PG website strategy and social media endeavors Assist in development of HHS PG Form Bank; possibly as joint project with BLG or In-House PGs Work on tool kits to populate website Work with membership VC on membership surveys to improve value of PG

Goal 2: Membership Initiatives Objectives: Increase membership and continue to reach out to members to provide specific input on programs and activities. Strategy: Membership Drive Follow up on members who drop off Follow up on webinar attendees to increase membership Improve new member welcome-letter process Membership Calls – 1 to 2 calls per year, each to include: Substantive topic of relevance (CMS officials, etc.) as free benefit to PG members Update from PG Leadership Team – to keep interested members informed of initiatives and upcoming activities Measures: New Member statistics Member Calls with PG Leadership Number of Members attending calls Participation of Members in discussion and feedback

Goal 3: Programming Initiatives: Objective: provide top quality educational programs to our membership Strategy: Continue trend of aggressive schedule of webinar planning Coordinate co-sponsored webinars with other PGs Collaborate with other PGs to sponsor informative luncheons at annual and mid-year meeting Measures: Completion of 25 sponsored or co-sponsored webinars during the program year Feedback from webinar attendees

Goal 4: Publications: Objective: Provide top quality publications to our membership Strategy: HHS Newsletters Collaborate with other PGs on publications/products Distribute periodic email alerts on regulatory developments and other hot topics Solicit authors for HHS PG contributions to AHLA Connections Measures: Successful publication of 2 HHS PG Newsletters during FY Successful distribution of periodic email alerts Develop plan with In-House or other PG on joint publications Proactive identification of publication opportunities by polling membership- identify willing contributors and connect them to opportunities in the Association, especially younger members

Goal 5: Website/Listserv initiatives: Objective: Provide top quality website materials and listserv content to our membership Strategy Continue E-Alerts Monitor listserv and encourage appropriate discussion as needed Fully utilize updated website interface and other tools to engage members and provide quality content Provide more substantive content (including tool kits, etc.) Measures: Track number of Email  Alerts contributed by PG to include in quantitative summary report at year end Proactive identification of listserv opportunities, such as e-alerts, by polling membership- identify willing contributors and connect them to opportunities in the Association, especially younger members

Goal 6: Enhanced Affinity Group/Task Force Activities: Objective: Increase opportunities for Affinity Groups to enhance the PG experience Strategy: Continue ACO Task Force produce various educational programs and materials Continue success of AG’s (FMV, PHS, RE) and ERM and Health Care Reform Task Force Sponsorships Regular activities (regular calls; networking events, listservs etc.) Webinar/Roundtable concepts: (FMV Boot camp series, Current FMV Developments, Real Estate Roundtables; PHS education calls) FMV or PHS program and/or AG information booths at HHS Institute Measures: Increased AG/Task Force membership Listserv traffic (for those AG’s that have one) Co-sponsor webinars; complete FMV Boot camp, Real Estate Roundtables Publications of materials that raise awareness of AGs

Goal 7: Social Media initiatives: Objective: Continue to develop and expand social media presence by providing more meaningful content and discussion via social media outlets to the PG members Strategy: Provide targeted and more meaningful content to PG members through PG social media accounts Develop podcasts on timely, appropriate topics of interest to members Work with Association staff and other PGs to collaborate and increase AHLA and PG’s social media presence Measures: Live tweet during at least 50% of PG webinars and at both the mid-year and annual meetings; and continue to promote PG listserv posts Publish ___ podcasts during the FY Participate in calls and other AHLA efforts to unify and develop best practices for its social media efforts
