HOMEROOM9/29/14 Write these important dates in your agenda: Monday - Friday (10/20-10/24) – Conference Week (Early Release) Write a letter to our troops! For every handwritten, well-thought letter that you write, you can earn a Brain Buck! We will send these letters to the Bert Show and they will ship our letters to troops who are deployed during Thanksgiving. See the handout as an example.

E.L.T. 9/29/14 Get a copy of “The Essential 55” book and: Warm Up: Read for ten minutes. Work Session: Make a list of rules #1-15. Make a poster for these rules. Due today! If you finished early, write a letter to the troops. Use the green guide sheet for help. Closing: Submit your poster for a grade.

LANGUAGE ARTS – WARM UP 9/29/14 FRUIT  Sit in your FRUIT teams.  Get a warm up sheet.  Complete the “Maniac Magee” quiz side first.  Then, proceed to responding to your journal question: How do you get to know characters in a story? What is direct characterization? What is indirect characterization?   Remember: Journals should be at least one or more paragraphs.

9/29/14 Essential Question: How do authors use characterization to bring their characters to life? Standard: ELA.6.RL.3 – Describe how a particular story’s or drama’s plot unfolds in a series of episodes as well as how the characters respond or change as the plot moves toward a resolution.

LANGUAGE ARTS – WORK SESSION 9/29/14 Read “Bunnicula” and annotate. Be sure to underline words and phrases that provide clues about Harold the dog. Using your underlined information, work with an elbow partner to complete the character web on page 103 of your Reader’s Journey workbook.
