Upcoming, Important Dates: Add these dates to your agenda, if they apply to you: Monday (08/26) – Fundraising Money is Due Wednesday (08/28) – Types of Conflict Quiz - Early Release 1:30 Go get your breakfast NOW. Do not wait. Turn in any signed paperwork to the homeroom bin. If you are not eating, you must read something of your choice. HOMEROOM = SILENCE

2 Language Arts – Warm Up 08/26/19
I.A.N. - E.L.A. Terms Add the following vocabulary terms to their correct pages within your I.A.N. (Example: External conflict will go on your E page.) You will have to look up the word “CONFLICT” in the glossary to find these terms. Then, you will see external and internal conflicts defined under CONFLICT. external conflict – internal conflict -

Essential Questions: How do different types of conflict help develop a narrator’s point of view? How do different types of conflict help a plot unfold? How do different types of conflict impact how characters in a story respond? Standard: ELACC6RL3 – Describe how a particular story’s or drama’s plot unfolds in a series of episodes as well as how the characters respond or change as the plot moves toward a resolution.

Types of Conflict Flipbook Task: Create a flipbook by folding your long paper “hot dog style”, then fold two more times to make the squares. Cut the flaps on the front flap only and stop the cut once you reach the long crease. See the board for an example. Outside cover – type of conflict & a new illustration (Yes, you must add color.) Inside cover (top) – definition for that type of conflict (use I.A.N. p ) Inside cover (bottom) – Provide an example of that type of conflict from a story you’ve read or watched This flipbook will be due no later than Wednesday.

Conflict Quiz – Wednesday! First, submit your Types of Conflict worksheet to the homework bin if you still have it. Next, open your agenda to this week and list these items in the Language Arts boxes: Tuesday (08/27) – Study for Conflict Quiz Wednesday (08/28) – Conflict Quiz - Conflict Flipbook Due Then, use your notes in your I.A.N. to complete your study guide.

6 The Daily 5 Language Arts – E.L.T. 08/26/19 What’s new?
Every OTHER Friday will be a makeup day (1st/3rd Fridays of the month) PBIS Lesson – 1st Tuesday of the month CNN Student News – Every Mon./Wed./Fri. We will complete at least 3 of the 5 every day. Must Do: Reading Writing Pick One: Word Work Read to Someone Listen to Reading

7 Reading Language Arts – E.L.T. 08/26/19 Read a book of your choice.
When you finish the book, see me to complete your book recommendation form. You must read at least 3 books this nine weeks and complete the corresponding book recommendation. You will have time in class to read, but you could also read on your own, too. You may certainly read more to earn more points! YOUR SECOND BOOK MUST BE FINISHED BY AT LEAST FRIDAY (09/13). Remember to include a completed book recommendation and take your photo.

Language Arts – E.L.T. 08/26/19 Writing (Must Complete 3 Per Week) Choose one of the following topics and write at least one paragraph (5 complete sentences) about it. When do you feel your happiest? Why? Explain using lots of details. What are your favorite things to do on the weekend? If you owned a company, what kind of company would it be? Write a short story about a kid who finds a map for hidden treasure. What do you want to be when you grow up? What kind of house will you have? Family? Job? Free write about a topic of your choice.
