Artistic Research SHARE Step-Change for Higher Arts Research and Education

Artistic Research SHARE stands for a major jump forward; a key moment of progress, in the further development of artistic research. SHARE is an international networking project, comprising 39 partners working together on enhancing the ‘3rd cycle’ of arts research and education.

Artistic Research Background Research at art academies began in UK and Finland in the early 90s Rapid spread of Masters and PhDs in the arts with the Bologna Process, changing the structure of higher arts education around Europe ELIA facilitated discussion from the beginning: Re:search in and through the arts artesnet Strand Strategy Paper

Artistic Research Aims Share knowledge and facilitate existing and new networks Build international research community and peer-review Inform National and European policy Link research and teaching Foster collaboration within the arts, across the arts, across arts and sciences, technology and humanities

Artistic Research Over three years of SHARE, we hope to achieve: More doctoral researchers More international exchanges and programmes More (successful) funding bids by the arts More direct support from National and European agencies More interaction between research and teaching at all levels More awareness and recognition of artistic research

Artistic Research Development 3rd cycle education Starting new programmes brings together art schools/faculties developing 3rd cycle arts education in the first stages of development, building on partnerships within previous ERASMUS Networks

Artistic Research Artists + Researchers + Supervisors Starting new programmes brings together artist-researchers/doctoral students and supervisors from across Europe and from schools in all stages of development supports European research collaboration in different disciplines and thematic areas, helping emerging researchers to exchange their findings and to foster innovation

Artistic Research Advocacy Making research in the arts visible raise the visibility and the level of recognition in Europe for research in the arts convince national research boards, national rectors’ conferences and European bodies of the value, the impact and potential of arts research support arts schools/art faculties in their contacts with national education and research bodies
