Infant Class 23 children Higher Level Teaching assistant: Miss Phillips - Monday to Friday Teaching assistant: Ms Arnold - Wednesday/Thursday Afternoon (JH out – leadership time) Teachers: Miss Hartshorne

Homework Reading: Please share the book with your child and write any comments in the reading record book. Please indicate if you have finished the book and you would like a new one. Return to school daily. Homework will be set on Thursday and collected in on Tuesday. Choose one activity each week, then date and sign on the grid in the Learning Log book. Spellings will be set weekly. Linked to phonics done in class. Look, Cover, Write, Check, challenges or sentence writing. Return to school on Tuesday. If they have completed their homework earlier they can bring it in and put it in the homework basket in the classroom. We hope that in giving you 5 nights to complete these tasks you are able to find the best time for you and your child.

 Year One - works in line with what the children have experienced in Reception in order to allow for a smooth transition. There will be plenty of time for Independent Learning where the children have a free flow in the classroom and the outside area.  Year Two – more structured, adult lead time to prepare for end of year SATS

Maths  4 lessons each week following Maths No Problem (Singapore Maths) Maths sessions allow the children to problem solve and reason through discussion and exploration.  Children will work in mixed ability pairs and groups and have targeted support from the teacher and HLTA.

English  Daily phonics and spelling, punctuation and grammar work. Regular handwriting sessions.  4 lessons per week. Regular independent and supported writing. Children will work in mixed ability pairs and groups and have targeted support from the teacher and HLTA.  1 Guided Reading session each week – children are split into groups (by ability best fit) and each group works with the teacher or HLTA to complete reading and comprehension activities.

Reading Books are matched to child’s ability. Checked and changed daily to make sure children are reading regularly. Expected that children will read daily at home. Books that are above a child’s ability will not improve reading skills but will affect child’s confidence. Parents support by providing and sharing additional books at home. Books shared with an adult may be above child’s ability.

Topics  Curriculum overview for the year is on the class page on the school website. Subject to change! This half term…..Superheroes  English – recounts, information texts, story  Maths – numbers to 100, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division  Science –forces, pushes and pulls  Geography – locals and national superheroes, physical geography of local area  Music – vocal games, listening games  Computing – algorithms  PSHE– beginning and belonging  PE – Developing accurate rolling, throwing, bouncing, and catching skills Dance – Creating a toys motif  DT – Superhero puppets

Communication A member of staff on the playground every morning ( am) can pass on messages to your child's teacher. Call/ the office. Catch me on the playground after school. Send in a note. Write in homework books or reading record books.

 Everything must be named  Please ensure your child has a water bottle with them everyday for use throughout the day in the classroom  Coats, rain coats and wellies to be in school every day  Please say goodbye at the pupil entrance so children come into school independently

How can you help?  Reinforce learning at home Spellings, topic/English/maths activities, reading  Offer to help in the classroom, with visits or special events  Communicate any concerns or problems Catch me after school, send in a note, write in the homework book, call/ the office to arrange a time to meet.  Any Questions?
