2 Objectives To inform you of the year 5 curriculum.
To inform you of the expectations for children in year five and upper KS2.

3 Routines 8.55am – school begins 3.15pm – school ends
Late procedures – ASC (first 15 minutes £5 – then incremental) Contact with teachers Fruit for playtime Playground rules before/after school Bikes and scooters must not be ridden on the playground. The trim-trail is out of bounds No balls to be brought in to school.

4 Sickness If your child has a ‘bug’, it is our school policy that they are kept at home for 48 hours after the last episode. Inform the office if your child is absent.

5 P.E for 5C – Wednesday and Thursday
Uniform Full uniform to be worn at all times - this includes their tie which is to be worn every day with a shirt / blouse. Hair must be tied back Summer uniform ends at half term. Earrings should not be worn in school – children can not take part in PE if they wear earrings.  Full PE kits should be in school Monday to Friday. This includes shorts, t-shirt, jumper, tracksuit bottoms and trainers. P.E for 5C – Wednesday and Thursday On Thursdays, the children will be sent home in their PE kits. Please ensure their kit is returned to school for Friday. Please wash PE kits weekly. EVERY item should be clearly named.

6 Equipment Children must have fresh water in their bottles for school every day. We will provide the children with stationery, but they can bring their own pencil case to school. Glue sticks are incredibly useful – named.

7 English Daily English lessons in the morning
Weekly spelling tests based on Year 5 and 6 word list and rules. Handwriting – must be legible, joined and consistent in size. Accurate punctuation Presentation – ‘zero tolerance’ Grammar – weekly focus

8 Reading Regular reading in school with high level adult input
Follow up homework each week – a high standard is expected Questions – answer using the text

9 Maths Daily maths lessons in the morning
Mental maths focus to begin each lesson Problem solving skills Reasoning skills Maths vocabulary – including spelling Mathletics weekly Times tables (rockstars) FAST maths (taken home)

10 FAST MATHS Weekly sessions in school whole class activity
Daily practice at home ‘Top marks maths’ (free) Folders must be returned every Monday at the latest

17 Our Aim For all children to be happy and confident learners who show respect, resilience and positivity in all that they do. For all children to become more independent learners and to further prepare them for the transition between primary and secondary schools.
