3 Purple Class Mrs Jenkinson-Dix teaches Mon. and Tues. all day and Wed. am. Mrs Jenkinson teaches English, maths, science, art, history / geography and Spanish. Mrs Craven teaches all day Thurs. and Fri. Mrs Craven teaches English, maths, computing, music and PE. Mrs Miles teaches PSHE. Mr Thulborn teaches RE. Teaching assistant: Mrs Miles.

4 Our Timetable Every morning 20 minutes of each of the following:
guided reading, spelling and grammar, handwriting and arithmetic Maths - 5 x per week English - 5 x week broken focussed on: extended writing based around a topic or text.

5 English Linked to topic
Daily writing focus lessons: Talk for Writing – consists of teacher input, shared texts, practical activities, group work, independent work, teacher or TA assisted work Reading taught through: Guided reading, independent reading (AR), comprehension activities 15/20 minute sessions everyday: Handwriting/spelling, guided reading, punctuation and grammar sessions Mixed and ability groupings Catch up sessions

6 Reading Accelerated Reader (AR)
All children currently completing Star Reader tests to find their ZPD level Children move up a level when they get three AR quiz scores of 100% (these do not need to be consecutive) Please support your child by encouraging them to read a range of books at their level and asking them questions about the text they are reading

7 Maths Daily maths sessions:
Singapore Maths – based on enquiry based approach: consists of teacher input, practical activities, group work, independent work, teacher or TA assisted work Mental Arithmetic 15-20 minute session every day Times tables remain a big focus in Y5 Mixed and ability groupings Catch up sessions

8 Our Topic This term our topic is a “Child’s War”.
The children are exploring the events of WW2 on children. They will be: Learning about prejudice and intolerence Deveoping an understanding of the Holocaust Writing a diary entry of an evacuee Writing a recount / newspaper report of the Blitz Becoming an evacuee for a day

9 Topics Spring 1 - Hola Mexico Spring 2 - Darwin’s Delight Summer 1 and 2 - Revolution

10 P.E. PE is on Thursday and Friday Shorts and t-shirts for indoor
Warm kit and trainers required for outdoor games Long hair tied back, earrings to be removed or covered with tape Note required if child is not able to do PE

11 Home Learning Children choose activities to complete from our Home Learning list. Reading independently each night. Children are encouraged to discuss the books with you. Talk about character, plot, use of writing style and meaning – share ‘Let’s read!’ Spellings each week. Home Learning will generally be available on our learning platform ‘Starz’ each week.

12 Incentives House points – Potter, Weasely, McGonagall, Hagrid

15 Communication A member of staff on the playground every morning (8.40 – 8.55am) can pass on messages to your child's teacher. Messages can also be passed to breakfast club who can pass it to your child's teacher. 5 day policy - often easier to share messages with staff member in the morning.

16 How can you help? Reinforce learning at home
Topic overview will be available on the website as well as regular ‘news updates’. Offer to help with trips or special events. Communicate any concerns/problems See us before/after school, send a letter, or call/ the office to arrange a time to meet us.
