Lisa Simmons Culturally Relevant Inspiration

Oakland School for the Arts OSA is located in the downtown area of Oakland CA; the school demographic is very wide there are all nationalities and races that attend. OSA is innovative because it no only gives students a lead way to a career, but connects students with local business to offer greater opportunities. OSA has connected with the local ice skating rink to offer classes and they have connected with a small family own circus school to offer circus art classes.

OSA OSA offers many 21 st Century Skills Life and Career Skills Learning and Innovation Skills Information, Media and Technology skills Key Subject – 3R’s This isn’t your ordinary school, yes students have to wear uniforms, but this school gives students the opportunity to get a running start on their careers. The school offers classes that are relevant to this age singing, dancing, music, computer, art and many other areas that young people are interested in. OSA is hands on for teachers and students they are to create freely their own play, music, dance routine or art and all in a healthy environment.

Pentecostal Way of Truth School Academy P.W.T is located in the heart of west Oakland, this school may not seem like much to the naked eye, but there is greatness in this school. Although the school is mostly African American now, this school has seen it fare share of almost every race or nationality. P.W.T has always been beyond it time when I attend school here we were offered programs that allowed us go from school to a career. We took classes at Pixar, did underwater welding, scuba diving, dance, art and computer programming.

P.W.T 21 st Century Skills P.W.T offers Life and Career Skills Learning and Innovation Skills Information, Media and Technology skills Key Subject – 3R’s P.W.T although associated with a church is not a church school, this is a school full of teachers that care about the students. Most students who attend this school live in the area and some are even considered misfits, but not in the eyes of these teachers they want nothing more than to give students the support they need to have a career and make a better live for themselves. Creativity flows through this school teachers have to be creative in there teaching, using hands on approach and on the job training.

K-12 K12 is an online program this program that serves any child and from what I have seen plenty of different cultures, this program teaches the basics, but does it in an unconventional manor through the internet. This program allows students to learn and do work on their own time and gives them hands on computer skills.

K12 K12 offers 21 st Century Skills Learning and Innovation Skills Information, Media and Technology skills Key Subject – 3R’s I believe this program is a showcase of bringing children into the 21 st Century, with schools becoming dangerous and parents wanting to make sure they are learning the essentials. Although this is an online program they give some tests in person and allow students to meet and greet. This program is innovative because it helps students to self teach and to use their critical thinking skills. The idea that students will be learning and teaching themselves is creative all in its own, this program teaches enough through the internet were students are able to learn on their own.
