HAYWARD UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT Link to the school: http://www.husd.k12.ca.us/cms/page_view?d=x&piid=&vpid=1285481617108 Demographic Public school district Located in the city of Hayward, California Demographic is 63% Hispanic, 11% African-American, 8% Asian, 7% Filipino and 11% Other

HAYWARD UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT Hayward Unified School District is unique because they offer college and career readiness programs that students can participate in such as Biomedical Sciences Pathway. Students can also get involved in choir, AVID, community services and other various activities while achieving academic success. The school district supports 21 st century skills such as creativity, collaboration and communication. To support this teachers encourage students to participate in Tennyson High School Mock City Council Meeting and at Anthony Ochoa Middle School Arts student's paint murals around campus. The learning experiences of the district reflect the cultural pedagogy by creating programs the encourage students to go to college and to adopt skills for careers after college. There are programs such as AVID, language immersion classes, literacy intervention programs and even an adult school for those who might never received the chance to graduate from high school. Also due to the schools having a high Hispanic percentage there is probably a high need for programs that will teach English to those who do not speak English.

YOUNG WOMEN’S LEADERSHIP SCHOOL OF EAST HARLEM Link to School: http://www.tywls.org/ Demographic: Public School Single Sex School Majority of students come from low income households Predominately African-American students

YOUNG WOMAN’S LEADERSHIP SCHOOL OF EAST HARLEM The Young Women’s Leadership School of East Harlem is unique because it is the first public all- girls college preparatory school in the United States and was founded in 1996. The 21 st century skills that are supported through this school are life & career skills that can prepare students to be successful in academics to get accepted to college. Students are exposed to college as early as 6 th grade and are given the opportunity to meet with guidance counselors for help answer the challenging questions about college through the Collegbound Initiative. The learning experiences reflect cultural pedagogy because there is the YWLN- Young Women’s Leadership Network that promotes the philosophy of developing the “whole girl”. The four areas of focus are: college and career awareness, STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math), leadership development, and health and wellness. This gives light to students who thought college might be off the table because of their background. Creativity is promoted arts, networking events and community outreach. The students were given the opportunity to go hear The First Lady, Michelle Obama speak at "The Power of the Educated Girl" event at the Apollo theater. Events such as this open the eyes to young females to let them know that they are capable of reaching the tallest mountain if you work hard towards it.

UNIVERSITY OF THE ROCKIES Link to School: http://www.rockies.edu/ Demographic: Online University Students all over the globe Majority of the students are working class adults High minority population

UNIVERSITY OF THE ROCKIES The University of the Rockies is innovative because the majority of the teaching is done online. It allows students to be reached all over the globe as long as they have a source of technology and internet then they meet two of the various requirements to attend. The 21 st century skills that are supported through this school are innovation, collaboration, critical thinking, communication and fluent in technology. Teachers support this because they help educate students through the world wide so creative forms of communication are crucial to aiding students. The learning experiences reflect cultural relevancy because we are embarking in a world that functions using technology. Students are able to gain knowledge in the comfort of their home or library so that they can better their particular situation. There are honor societies that students can be apart of if they maintain a certain GPA. The school promotes creativity between the student and teacher because students are required to fly to the campus in Denver, CO to fulfill their residency requirement. This allows teachers and students to bond as well as students to interact with their classmates.
