When thinking about SRE we are aware that this is a very sensitive subject for all, especially with the realization that your children are growing up.
As a result, we want to ensure that we make sure both you and the children always know that
You want the best for their children
You want to protect their children and to keep them safe
You want their children to be healthy and happy..
So do we and SRE is an essential part of this. I think we would all agree it is better coming from a known adult than from another child informing them!

4. Where do children now learn about Sex and Relationships?
Parents/carers? Friends? School? Lessons/playground? Magazines? Television? Internet? Mobile Phones? What would be our preferred options?

With the many mediums that are now so easily accessible – there are greater ways for children to learn.
We need to ensure that they are learning in a safe environment and the information that they are learning is accurate and suitable. As well as ensuring they understand
the information.

6. What is sex and relationships education?
SRE topics are statutory requirement and mandatory for all primary students. They are to provide a curriculum that is balanced and based on spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupil. In turn this will prepare pupils for the opportunities and responsibilities and experiences of later life.

7. The main aims for SRE
To enable young people to understand and respect their bodies, and be able to cope with the changes puberty brings (without fear)
SRE will be taught in the context of relationships. In addition SRE will promote self-esteem and emotional health and well-being and help them form and maintain worthwhile and
satisfying relationships, based on respect for themselves and for others, at home, school, work and in the community.
We aim to provide a holistic education for all children. Every pupil will receive their full entitlement to SRE regardless of their educational ability, gender, race, disability,
sexual orientation, ethnicity or faith. We aim to support children in their emotional, cultural and social, as well as academic development.

11. Statutory: Year 5 Describe the changes as humans develop to old ages
They need to describe the reproduction in some plants and animals.
Year 6
Living things produce offspring of the same kind, but normally offspring vary and are not identical to parents.
The minimum statutory requirement for SRE is that schools must deliver the National Curriculum for Science to all children within school. This is:
Key Stage 1
• Notice that animals, including humans, have offspring, which grow into adults.
Key Stage 2
Describe the changes as humans develop to old age.
Recognise that living things produce offspring of the same kind, but normally offspring vary and are not identical to their parents
In addition to the statutory lessons contained in the science curriculum, we will also teach children about the following topics:
Year 5 and 6 - The way humans are conceived and grow, and why families are important. The physical and emotional changes that happen in puberty. Consideration of changing body image and gender stereotyping and being aware of various types of partnerships and relationships. Keeping safe (including discussion of harmful practices such as FGM).

12. When beginning the session we will ensure that ground rules for SRE are developed and firmly established.
We will ensure that pupils have the opportunities to ask anonymous and appropriate questions and agree as a class not to ask personal questions.
Sex and Relationship Education is delivered through science, PSHE and literacy activities. A planned and co-ordinated approach to each subject can provide an appropriate framework
for SRE to take place providing pupils with a consistent message. SRE is taught by classroom teachers and teaching assistants.
Sex and relationship education will be delivered in single gender groups as we feel that this is more appropriate and relevant.
Prior to the children in Years 5 and 6 commencing their SRE lessons, we will give them the opportunity to say what they would like to learn about. To the extent that these
responses can be incorporated into the lessons, they will be.
