EPSRC e-Science Network: Digital Repositories in e-Science (DReSNet) Queen Mary, University of London 2 nd – 4 th December Mark Hedges Centre for e-Research King’s College London

2 E-Science Network Grant Repositories as integrated components of research infrastructures, interoperability, data re-use. Build a community of partners, including both academic and non-academic participants. Facilitate collaboration. Identify areas where additional research would be beneficial to the wider community, and provide recommendations to funding. To encourage and facilitate the dissemination of current activities and the results of research in the field. To establish and support working groups addressing specific issues. DReSNet Network

3 Activities so far Kick-off meeting in November 2008 in Newcastle. RECURSE workshop at DCC conference 2008 in Edinburgh (with OGF Europe, OMII UK, SUB Goettingen). Special session at the 4 th IEEE e-Science conference in Indianapolis Workshop at OGF 23 in Catania in Spring 2009 (with OGF Europe). Helped set up OGF Research Group on digital repositories – initial report forthcoming. Tutorial on Digital Repositories in Data Ecosystems at DEST 2009 (IEEE International Conference on Digital Ecosystems and Technologies) Workshop on repositories for the life sciences (Manchester, July 2009)

4 Forthcoming activities In first year (or so): – events associated with e-Science and grid conferences – workshops focused on specific research communities (life sciences, physics) Next: –Planning next steps at start of 2010 –Joint events with JISC repository/e-research communities –(More) discipline-focused events –Working groups – …
