2 www.ukoln.ac.uk A centre of expertise in digital information management www.bath.ac.uk UK Web Focus ●UK Web Focus is funded by JISC (Joint Information Systems Committee) ●UK Web Focus provides a technology watch, information dissemination and coordination role for the UK Higher Education community ●UK Web Focus is based at UKOLN at the University of Bath Technology Watch UK Web Focus monitors Web developments by: Monitoring resources such as W3C web pages and mailing lists Attending W3C Advisory Committee meetings and Web conference Learning from examples of best practices Dissemination UK Web Focus provides a dissemination role for Web developments by: Giving talks and presentations Writing papers and articles Organising events such as the Institutional Web Management workshop series UK WEB FOCUS

3 www.ukoln.ac.uk A centre of expertise in digital information management www.bath.ac.uk UK Web Focus Events UK Web Focus has: ●Organised a variety of events ●Given talks and presentations at a number of events Events UK Web Focus has organised six annual national workshops aimed at managers of institutional Web services The events to date are: King's College London (July 1997) University of Newcastle (Sept 1998) Goldsmiths College, London (Sept 1999) University of Bath (June 2000) Queen’s University Belfast (June 2001) University of Strathclyde (June 2002) Participation UK Web Focus has given talks and presentations at a variety of events including: Participation at UKERNA’s JANET User Support Workshop from 1997-2001 Participation at UCISA’s TLIG/SDG Workshop held in 1998, 2000 and 2002 Other conferences and seminars within the HE and FE sector Contributions to a number of international conferences including the International World Wide Web Conferences

5 www.ukoln.ac.uk A centre of expertise in digital information management www.bath.ac.uk UKOLN’s Advisory Services ●UKOLN provides advice to various sectors, including the HE and FE community, local and central government and public libraries. ●UKOLN’s Policy and Advice Team includes UK Web Focus, Interoperability Focus, Collection Description Focus, QA Focus, the NOF Technical Advisory Service, Public Library Networking Focus and Bibliographic Management Relevance To Web Managers UK Web Focus organises the Institutional Web Management Workshop series Interoperability Focus has supported the development of standards for education metadata Collection Description Focus provides advice on metadata for describing and accessing collections of digital resources QA Focus is supporting a JISC programme by advising on quality assurance for project deliverables, which includes compliance with standards and best practices for Web site The NOF Technical Advisory Service provides advice on standards and best practices for projects funded by the NOF-digitise programme
