3 rd Grade Team Contact Information Mrs. Herring– Planning time is 9:40-10:30 a.m.

What To Expect In Third Grade In 3 rd grade, the curriculum begins to shift and higher expectations for learning are placed on the student. Grades may be lower in 3 rd grade. Science and Social Studies are emphasized more through note- taking.

Assessments and Grading Policy Quarterly Benchmark Tests in ELA and math will continue in 3 rd grade. Mock writings will continue in 3 rd grade. Standardized State Testing Language Arts: Grammar 40%, Composition 40%, and Spelling 20% ELA: Test 50%, CW/Quizzes 40%, HW 10% Science: Test 40%, CW/Quizzes 30%, Health 20%, HW 10% Social Studies: Test 50%, CW/Quizzes 40%, HW 10% Math: Test 50%, CW/Quizzes 40%, HW 10% A B 92-85C D F below 70

Rules and Consequences 1. LISTEN WHEN YOUR TEACHER IS TALKING 2. RAISE YOUR HAND FOR PERMISSION TO SPEAK OR LEAVE YOUR SEAT. 3. FOLLOW DIRECTIONS QUICKLY. 4. KEEP YOUR HANDS AND FEET TO YOURSELF. 5. School Expectations At East Aiken School of the Arts, we utilize a school-wide discipline system called Acting Right. Each student is expected to : –Control their body –Control their voice –Use their imagination –Concentrate –Cooperate

Dress Code NO colored hair NO short shirts, shorts or skirts NO underwear in view NO strapless or spaghetti strap shirts NO clothing with inappropriate pictures or words NO hats, do-rags, or scarves Parents will be called to pick up students or bring a change of clothing if students come dressed with any of the above.

Observation Guidelines Observations are limited to 30 minutes Prior arrangement must be made with the classroom teacher Siblings are not allowed in the classroom during an observation Parents and siblings are not permitted on the playground

Volunteer/PTO If you would like to volunteer and have not been trained, please see Ms. Cassels. Chaperones for field trips also have to be trained. Please join and participate in our PTO!

Snacks/Birthday Treats You are welcome to send in snacks for the class. Birthday treats can be sent in. They MUST be store bought.

Homework Policy Your child will write down his/her homework assignments each day. Each grading period, five points will be deducted from a total of 100 points for each missing homework assignment. Your child needs to study notes in Social Studies and Science nightly.

Transportation You must send in a note or fax a note to change your child’s transportation. and phone calls are NOT accepted If your child is a car rider, whomever is picking them up MUST have a car tag.

Mornings Please do not drop your child off in the mornings before 7:00 a.m. There is not an adult on duty to watch them

Helpful Tips & Websites Encourage your students to read every day for at least 20 minutes. It doesn’t matter what they read (comics, fiction, fantasy, history, magazines). Just read! Follow up (their reading) with questions. Practice math facts while riding in the car. Talk to your child nightly about what they learned in school
