Invaders and Settlers Successful Learners Areas of Learning As Historians we will investigate the Viking trail in our locality. We will use the evidence we find to increase our knowledge and understanding of people, events, and contexts from the Anglo- Saxon and Viking era in Cumbria As writers we will extend our knowledge of using figurative language in writing Viking mini sagas. As Artists we will refine our observational drawing and sketching skills on the Viking trail. Confident IndividualsResponsible Citizens EnterpriseKUWSpiritual and MoralCommunities As enterprising individuals we will investigate what it means to be part of a school council. We will write manifestoes and share them with the rest of the school. After a vote we will reorganise the current school council and begin working on our first project In our knowledge and understanding of the world we will be deepening our knowledge of electricity during science sessions. We will also experience life as a Viking on the shore of Derwentwater and sailing out on to the lake in a Viking Long ship! In our Spiritual and Moral development we will be investigating the sacred texts of the Bible in Christianity and the Torah in the Jewish Faith. We will visit Churches in our locality and spend time in school celebrating the Harvest. We will investigate the Viking trail in our locality and work alongside Rev Canon Gill Hart at St Paul’s Church, Irton. We will take part in the rugby world cup event at Egremont with local schools.

A variety of texts both fiction and non fiction based on our theme Traders and Invaders will be available for the children to read. In our writing we will create our own legends after reading and investigating Beowulf. Alongside other personal development targets this half term’s focus is To Imagine Milestone 1 With help, develop ideas. Respond to the ideas of others’. Respond to questions about ideas. Learn about the great artists, architects and designers in history; with a focus on the Anglo Saxon and Viking crosses in our locality. Using ICT Design and write programs that accomplish specific goals, including controlling or simulating physical systems; solve problems by decomposing them into smaller parts. Use sequence, selections and repetition in programs; work with variables and various forms of input and output; generate appropriate inputs and predicted outputs to test programs. Use logical reasoning to explain how a simple algorithm works, detect and correct errors in algorithms and programs. Understanding physical development, health and well-being Swimming Lessons at West Lakes Academy on Wednesday afternoons PE Games sessions with sports coach Glenn from Onside Sports on Monday afternoons.
