1 Ecological Enterprise Can I design an eco product to present at an exhibition? Maths: In Maths children will continue to master fundamental arithmetic skills while also exploring negative numbers, decimals and place value. We will continue to develop our problem solving skills using previous years SATS questions. Linking in with computing we will also explore theme work relating to environmental statistics. Writing : Children will explore mystery stories using the book ‘Short’ by Kevin Crossley. They will analyse the components of an effective mystery story before writing their own. In non- fiction writing children will learn about journalistic writing and how they can construct a balanced argument that considers multiple points of view based on environmental issues. Science: Children will explore the environment and classification of living things. They will look in detail at the environments found in waterways; including investigating flora and fauna. Combining knowledge from other subjects children will also explore the threats that modern living places on these water environments. PE: Children will explore invasion games such as Hockey, Football and Rugby. The aim will be to identify the qualities of an effective team, the roles within such and developing an awareness of attacking and defending strategies. We will link PE to our theme by developing an appreciation of the natural world and how these can be used during physical activities. SMSC (Spiritual/Moral/Social/Cultural): Children will continue to set, track and evaluate their own targets for learning before learning about the effects of taking drugs on the body. Arts / Design Technology: This half term the children will spend time planning and designing an eco-product in collaboration with Mandela class. They will even create their own prototype. Children will also use their ecological enterprise knowledge to plan and begin designing our ‘Green Goblin’ car bodywork. Language- Spanish: Children have already begun learning about Spanish cultures and looking at the flags of Spanish speaking countries. They will now learn how to describe the days, months and dates in Spanish before looking at the names of Spanish rivers and geographical features. Geography: Embracing the theme of ecological enterprise, the children will explore the environment in Geography. Specifically they will explore rivers, waterways and the water cycle before developing an understanding of how leading a green lifestyle can help to maintain these. RE: Children will learn about churches and the differences between different types of church. They will also discuss changes to the church over time and explore Christians beliefs in relation to the environment and how Christians can help to support the environment. Music : This half term the children will have Violin lessons from a specialist teacher. They will develop a basic understanding of how to read music and play simple tunes. Computing : This half term the children will use their previous knowledge to apply ICT across a range of subjects. We will explore data presentation in Maths, researching facts in Geography and presenting a project in Art and Design Technology.

15 Ecological Enterprise Can I design an eco product to present at an exhibition?
