Symbols of the Eucharist. L.O-To evaluate the meaning of the symbols in the Eucharist.

What can symbolise a big event in your life?

The people of God, are some how connected with each other The people of God, are some how connected with each other. St Paul called them the “Body of Christ”. Each member is linked with all other Christians, through Jesus. Jesus said “Where two or three are gathered together in my name, I am there in the middle of them”.

Two symbols of the Eucharist are the images of a head of corn and some grapes. The symbolism is that grapes are crushed to create wine, and the corn is crushed to make flour for bread. This is symbolic of the life of Jesus being crushed in order to give life to the world. Bread and wine are they key symbols of Mass/Eucharist.

In Mass we believe Jesus/God speaks to us through the reading of the Bible. As it is the “Word of God”. The Bible has a special place in the Church.

The two main symbols within the mass are bread and wine The two main symbols within the mass are bread and wine. These are transformed into the Body and Blood of Jesus. When we eat and drink we are in communion with Jesus.

But how does this link to sacrifice? Jesus gave up his life on the cross. Jews used to sacrifice lambs as an offering to God for their sins. Christians believe that Jesus did the same with his own life. He became, ‘The Lamb of God who takes the sins of the world’. Therefore at the Eucharist Roman Catholics believe that this gift/sacrifice should be celebrated.

Bread and wine show body and mind of Jesus. True or false? The Bible is the “Word of no-one”. Grapes are symbolic of the life of Jesus being crushed in order to give life to the world? Bread and wine show body and mind of Jesus. St Paul called Christians, “Body of Christ”.

Why is the Mass important? Why is the bread d and wine important? Do you believe the bread and wine are the body and blood of Christ? Explain your answer.
