2 Mass – Key Words Altar Blessed Sacrament Celebrant Communion
A table for sacrifice. Blessed Sacrament The real presence of Jesus in the form of consecrated bread. Celebrant The priest or bishop who leads the liturgy. Communion We receive the body and blood of Christ. Consecration The action of the priest at Mass, which, by the power of the Holy Spirit, changes the bread and wine into the body and blood of Christ with the words ‘This is my body’, ‘This is my blood’. Eucharist Literally ‘Thanksgiving’. It is sometimes used for the Mass or the body and blood of Jesus in particular. Gloria A song of rejoicing in the goodness of God. This is said or sung. Liturgy of the Word Readings from the Old and New Testament. Offertory That part of the Mass in which the unconsecrated bread and wine are offered to God. Penitential Rite It is a form of words we use when we ask for forgiveness and healing for any sin that separates us from God, and in which we receive God’s forgiveness. Responsorial Psalm It is a hymn of praise and is often used as our response to God speaking to us.
