1 Food and Fasting

2 Fasting Some Christians may give up things such as; Chocolate, crisps or alcohol and swearing Most Christians only fast during lent. It reminds them of Jesus fasting in the desert for the 40 days and 40 nights Some may give money to charities or help out on a voluntary basis.

3 Shrove Tuesday It is called Shrove because on this day you went to church to be shriven (Confessing your sins) It is the day before that start of Lent, when dairy products were given up. To use up the milk, butter and eggs, pancakes were made.

4 The bread and the wine are used in Holy Communion services.
During the last supper Jesus took the bread and said ‘Take, eat. This is my body broken for you’. He then takes the wine and says ‘This is my blood’. He asks them to do this in remembrance of him. The bread and the wine are used in Holy Communion services. Roman Catholics believe in transubstantiation this means that the wine and bread become the blood and body of Christ.

5 Some Christians are vegetarians on ethical grounds
St Peter had a vision that God told him all foods were clean. This means that Christians have no forbidden foods Some Christians are vegetarians on ethical grounds
