A HEALTHY BALANCE

To live a healthy lifestyle there are two essential things needed to succeed. Nutrition and Exercise. Many teens don’t do these two essential things. So I have devised a exercise routine and a nutrition table that, if followed can help you live a balanced and healthy lifestyle.

NUTRITION

These graphs all show information about nutrition and food intake. This survey was conducted for year 8s only.

Glasses of water consumed Each Day by Year 8 Amount of Fruit Eaten Each Day by Year 8 The recommended amount of water needed each day is 6 to 8 glasses or 1.8 l. The recommended amount of fruit needed each day is about 3 to 4 pieces.

Amount of Vegetables Eaten Each Day by Year 8 Proportion of Protein Year 8s Have Each Day The recommended amount of vegetables needed each day is 3 to 4 cups. The recommended proportion of protein is 1 to 2 servings every day.

Proportion of Whole Grains Year 8s Have a Day The recommended proportion of grain is 1 to 3 servings everyday. Fats and oils should not be eaten often. Eat them sparingly. How Often Year 8’s Eat Fast Food

As you can see Year 8’s eat mostly the right amount of nutrients needed daily. But some are not meeting the recommended amount for optimum health. I have found a food pyramid that shows what foods you should be eating and how much.

Recommended Daily Food Group Requirements

EXERCISE

Exercise is one of the most important things for a healthy lifestyle. Some teens don’t exercise enough and some exercise to much. Too much exercise is actually a bad thing.

Amount of Hours Teenagers in Year 8 Spend Exercising Type of Exercise Teenagers in Year 8 do

Too much exercise can be a bad thing if you don’t balance exercise with homework and social time. If you do too much exercise you can be dependent on it and it can cause major health problems.

A great way to keep a routine for your exercise is to make an exercise log. An exercise log is a way to keep track of the things you want to do or have done. For example you might plan to walk the dog on Thursday and you go out for 30 mins. You would write down how long you went out and what you did. Your log also lets you see your progress and accomplishments! You should be exercising at least an hour a day to keep healthy according to National Fitness

Some people ask why exercise? Well, there are many answers to that question. The main reason people exercise is so they can stay fit and healthy. But exercise doesn’t just improve your health; it does many other great things! Exercise can lower the risk of many diseases such as diabetes or heart disease. It also trims your body down for a great visual appearance. Exercise can also help a person age well. But you have to remember that too much exercise can be bad.

Exercise For Year 8s As I stated before Year 8s should exercise at least an hour a day. This could include running or jogging, playing team sports or doing set exercises like squats, push ups or crunches. Running Squats, the proper way to do them.

Exercises Push ups, the proper way to do them. Make sure your whole body is straight and keep your butt tucked in. Crunches, the proper way to do them. Make sure you meet your elbow with your knee. Squats, the proper way to do them. Make sure your knees don’t wobble when you go down.

Exercise and nutrition are so important to be healthy. But it is vital to balance social and school work with being healthy and doing exercise. Balance is so important in living a healthy lifestyle. You have to balance your exercise with your social life and school work. Make sure you prioritise your time well. I hope this helps you live a balanced and healthy lifestyle!! By Alanna Smith 8.7 :)
