1 A healthy balance Eating Most teenagers these days are eating really unhealthy. They are eating too little fruits and vegetables and too much junk food.

2 Survey results It is recommended that you eat 2 serves of fruit everyday. According to the survey, most of the students have met the requirements. It is recommended that you eat 5 serves of vegetables everyday to meet the body’s requirements. This survey shows that most of the students have not met the requirements. This survey shows the number of meals that students usually eat a day. There is no actual recommended amount but some people have suggested that we should eat breakfast within one hour of waking up, eat every three hours, then stop 3 hours before sleep.

3 What we should be eating We should be eating 2 serves of fruit everyday. Here are some examples of a serve- 150g of fruit 1 medium sized piece (apple) 2 small pieces (plum) ½cup of 100% fruit juice We should be eating 5 serves of vegetables everyday. Here are some examples of a serve- ½ cup of cooked vegetables 1 medium potato 1 cup of salad vegetables ½ cup of cooked legumes. The recommended amount of protein that men should consume is 0.84 grams for every kilogram they weigh e.g. an adult male that weighs 75kg will need at least 63 grams of protein a day. The recommended protein intake is higher for women especially if they are pregnant or breastfeeding. Some sources of protein are- Beef, poultry, fish, eggs and legumes.

4 What we should be drinking A sufficient water intake is around 8 glasses (2 liters). It also depends on your activity level. Drinking water is a good thing because drinking a good amount of water reduces you risk of a heart attack.

5 A healthy balance Exercising Half an hour of exercise every day is recommended. But it doesn’t mean going to the gym for half an hour every day. You can play a sport or go for a walk. Walking your dog or walking down to the local supermarket counts.

6 This survey shows the amount of time students spend exercising each week. It is recommended that you exercise half an hour a day which is equivalent to 3½ hours a week. According to the survey, most students have met or exceeded the requirement greatly. Survey results

7 Exercising Exercising everyday is good because- It reduces the risk of heart disease and high blood pressure. It prevents obesity. How to get meet the daily exercise requirements- To meet the daily exercise requirements, taking up a sport is the best way. Soccer, basketball, hockey, netball, tennis, footy, swimming etc. You can also get a membership with a local gym.
