Credits for graduation Most courses are worth 1 credit A few courses are worth.5 credit (see the course catalog posted on the MHS webpage) Students have the ability to earn 32 credits in 4 years. 28 credits are required for graduation.

10 th Grade Schedule Information Block Schedule (4 periods fall/ 4 periods spring) Schedule Students in Band and Orchestra…will be on an A or B day for the entire year. Quarter classes are typically 9 weeks in length.

Scheduling cont. Reading will be required of all 10 th grade students. The reading classes are worth.5 credit and are 9 weeks in length or one Quarter. Reading may be paired with one of the following: All P.E. courses (team sports, conditioning, Fit n Fun) Socratic Inquiry, World Crafts, Contemporary Issues (Teacher Assistant, if eligible)

Scheduling cont.  Sophomores taking 2 AP Courses may opt out of the reading.  Students taking a total of 5 bonus point courses (Honors, or Advanced Placement) are allowed to take TA. They may not take TA and Driver’s Ed.  TA is teacher assistant and does not earn any credit/grade.  Sophomores who are enrolled in Honors English may sign up for Socratic Inquiry.

Students in the sophomore year have the opportunity to take the following AP classes AP classes available: AP Human Geography AP European History AP Environmental Science (Prerequisite: Biology 1 and Chemistry 1 with at least one at honors level) AP Statistics Prerequisite: (Algebra 2 Honors) AP Physics (Prerequisite: Biology 1 and Chemistry 1 with at least one at honors level) AP Biology(Prerequisite: Biology 1 and Chemistry 1 with at least one at honors level) AP Studio Art AP Music Theory

Electives and Alternates Elective: A course that is not required, but selected because of interest. Alternate: Scheduling conflicts will result in the use of an alternate course. Choose Carefully!

Maryville High School Honor Roll 1) Must have one complete term of grades at MHS at the time of selection. 2) Must attain a B (3.0) average or better. 3) Must have a satisfactory record of attendance. 4) May not have any out-of-school suspensions.

Graduating with Distinction Students will be recognized as graduating with “distinction” by attaining a B (3.0) average and completing at least one of the following….

Graduating with Distinction Earn a nationally recognized industry certification Participate in at least one of the Governor’s Schools Participate in at least one of the state’s All State musical organizations Be selected as a National Merit Finalist or Semi-Finalist Attain a score of 31 or higher composite score on the ACT Attain a score of 3 or higher on at least two advanced placement exams Earn 12 or more semester hours of transcripted postsecondary credit.

Graduate with Honors Students who score at or above all of the subject are readiness benchmarks on the ACT will graduate with Honors. The ACT benchmarks are: English 18 Math 22 Reading 22 Science Reasoning23

National Honor Society and Maryville Scholars The National Honor Society is a service and honor organization for juniors and seniors The purpose of the Maryville Scholars Program is to promote academic excellence by recognizing the top students in grades 11 and 12.

National Honor Society and Maryville Scholars Must have at least one complete term of grades from MHS Must take at least 3 bonus point courses in grade 10, one of which is Honors English 2.

NHS & Scholars continued… Must have no semester grade below C May not have any out of school suspensions. Must take at least 4 bonus point courses per year in grades 11 and 12 representing at least 3 of the core academic areas of English, math, science, social studies, and foreign language.

Registration Time line January : Online registration through MJHS Science classes. MHS counselors and staff will be available to assist students. April : Counselors available to meet with parents/students regarding scheduling questions. Last of April: Course request verification will be mailed home. May 1: Deadline for any course changes. (change in courses, change in placement, etc.) July 28: Sophomore orientation day at MHS. (Pick up schedules, briefly go to classes on schedule, meet teachers, get pictures made, etc.)
