Use of Language – Literary Devices Let’s Review!  Simile – compares 2 unlike things using “like” or “as”  Metaphor – compares 2 unlike things by saying one IS the other Remember Remember :  NEVER include a simile or metaphor that is silly, doesn’t fit the topic, or makes no sense.  When written effectively, a simile or metaphor adds value and meaning to an essay.

Use of Language – Word Choice  Refer to the non-negotiables  Correct use of homophones  Subject verb agreement  Consistent tense  Consistent POV  Do not choose high-level words or synonyms just for the sake of using them.
