Improving Employee Motivation via CSR – The Link Improving Employee Motivation via CSR – The Evidence Improving Employee Motivation via CSR – The Best Way PRISMATIC THINKING ™ 2 OVERVIEW OF TODAY

Latham and Pinder (2005, p. 486) propose that: [...] work motivation is a set of energetic forces that originate both within as well as beyond an individual’s being, to initiate work- related behaviour and to determine its form, direction, intensity, and duration. Key words for today are both within as well as beyond an individual’s being, in other words INTERNAL MOTIVATION PRISMATIC THINKING ™ 3 EMPLOYEE MOTIVATION AND CSR

Aguilera et al. (2007), Melynyte and Ruzevicius (2008), Strautmanis (2008), Turban and Greening (1997), Heslin and Ochoa (2008), Brammer et al. (2007), Deci & Ryan (2008). (to name but a few) PRISMATIC THINKING ™ 4 IMPROVING EMPLOYEE MOTIVATION via CSR THE EVIDENCE

CSR initiatives were found as one of the most important priorities of job seekers. Socially responsible companies were successful in attracting valuable employees Working for socially responsible companies strengthen employees’ self- image, helps to identify themselves with the organisation and in such a way fulfil the need for belonging and membership CSR can also enhance employees’ satisfaction, commitment and loyalty The contribution of CSR to improving organisational commitment is at least as great as that of improving job satisfaction PRISMATIC THINKING ™ 5 IMPROVING EMPLOYEE MOTIVATION via CSR THE RESEARCH FINDINGS

Internal CSR – Treat employees with respect, good working conditions etc. (0.814 correlation with Internal EM*) Internal CSR – Treat customers and suppliers ethically (0.683 correlation with Internal EM*) External CSR – Community based – with employee involvement (0.791 correlation with Internal EM*) * Correlations above 0.7 are seen as large and significant PRISMATIC THINKING ™ 6 IMPROVING EMPLOYEE MOTIVATION via CSR THE BEST WAYS
