UNI and Corporate Social Responsibility There is no generally accepted definition of the term CSR. It describes a wide range of economic, social and environmental initiatives by enterprises that go beyond legal requirements Mostly voluntary in nature

UNI and Corporate Social Responsibility Ethical Corporation Survey 91% of respondents believed effective CSR management creates shareholder value. 80% agreed non-financial indicators such as environmental and social performance indicators are essential to future financial performance 67% disagreed with the assertion that the “primary responsibility of corporations is to make money, and that all else is secondary.” Over 60% of all respondents believe Codes of Conduct, Environmental Management Systems and Management Compensation Linked to CSR Performance to be the top three strategies important to effective CSR management. Over 60% of the respondents viewed Reputation Risk, Employee Motivation and Satisfaction, and Brand Image as factors most important to building a business case and implementation of CSR policies. Over half of all respondents held that much of corporate environmentalism is merely “Greenwash.” When asked about what tools or tactics their companies were likely to adopt in order to manage CSR within the next 5 years, the most prevalent answer was “I don’t know”.
