2 AGENDA Today we’ll run through a series of practise question that you will be required to answer several times. 8 Q3: Evaluate the proposition that ‘acting in an environmentally responsible manner’ will reduce returns to shareholders. ‘Evaluate’ calls for a consideration of both sides of the proposition. Caring for the environment may result in increased costs and therefore lower returns to shareholders. On the other hand, increased costs could be outweighed by the benefits of attracting new customers, increasing staff motivation and making it easier to recruit and retain good employees. Efforts to reduce waste may result in lower costs. The business may also avoid fines that could be imposed for damaging the environment.
