– Key Resources Copyright © 2010 Pearson Education, Inc. or its affiliates. All rights reserved.3 In addition to reading the MS PearsonAccess User Guide, please review the training videos under the Training link on the Support tab in PearsonAccess. These trainings have been revamped and uploaded for the school year. It is extremely important that all Test Administrators (TAs) start getting familiar with PearsonAccess and TestNav.

Using PearsonAccess – General Overview 4 MST2 Under the Support tab, look for the FAQs at the bottom. Click on the Training link. You will see another link called the PearsonAccess Functionality Overview. Clicking on this link will give you a list of general PearsonAccess “mini courses” that you can review to refresh your knowledge about PearsonAccess.

Online Testing Practice Tutorial and ePATs 5 MST2 In preparation for the online test, two online interactive resources have been posted on the Support tab of PearsonAccess. TestNav Tutorial ePATs (electronic practice assessment tools) These resources may be used by teachers or other adults to help students become familiar taking a test using online tools within TestNav 7.5. MDE and Pearson put together the MST2 ePAT User Guide. The information in this guide will also help students navigate the test and be better prepared for the online MST2 assessments. This document has been placed in the Public Access folder on SharePoint.

Online Testing: Printing Authorization Tickets (Day before testing or day of testing) Each student will need a Student Authorization Ticket to log into the test session. Click on Authorizations > Student Authorizations to create a PDF document that has each student’s testing credentials. Copyright © 2010 Pearson Education, Inc. or its affiliates. All rights reserved.7 The ticket will contain the student name, session name, test URL, Login ID, and a Unique Test Code that students will use to access the test. The tickets are secure documents that will be collected at the end of the testing session each day and destroyed. Step-by-step instructions can be found in the MS PearsonAccess User Guide.

All rights reserved.9 Information in the PearsonAccess User Guide and the SATP2 Online Test Administrator’s Manual Seal codes are generated under the Authorization button. Click on Seal Codes from the drop down menu.

Day(s) of Online Testing: Checking the Test Session Copyright © 2010 Pearson Education, Inc. or its affiliates. All rights reserved.10 Most students will be taking the test in a session set as “Main” Default Group Type. However, any student requiring a special accommodation, i.e., Read-Aloud, Braille, etc. may test in a “Braille” or “Accommodation” Default Group Type. Go to Test Management > Manage Test Sessions and click a session name. All TAs should check to make sure the Default Group Type is set to the correct setting before starting the test. If editing is needed, please click the edit button and make the necessary changes BEFORE starting the test.

Day(s) of Online Testing: Starting the Test Session Copyright © 2010 Pearson Education, Inc. or its affiliates. All rights reserved.11 A session must be manually started before students in the session can log in and begin taking a test online. Go to Test Management > Manage Test Sessions and click a session name. Click the Start button. Make sure the TA or the STC has access to start and stop a test session. Step-by-step instructions can be found in the MS PearsonAccess User Guide.

Day(s) of Online Testing: Monitoring the Test Session Copyright © 2010 Pearson Education, Inc. or its affiliates. All rights reserved.12 After testing begins, you can monitor the status of each student in the session. It is a good idea to keep track of each student’s testing status. Go to Test Management > Manage Test Sessions > View by: Test Sessions. Click the session you would like to monitor. Refresh button next to Status can be helpful to monitor session. After 14 minutes of inactivity on PearsonAccess, the system will time out.

Day(s) of Online Testing: Resuming the Test Session Copyright © 2010 Pearson Education, Inc. or its affiliates. All rights reserved.13 If a student exits TestNav (unintentionally or intentionally) before completing a test, then the STC or TA must resume the student’s same test for the student to continue testing. -Go to Test Management > Manage Test Sessions > and click the name of session to see Session Details. -From the session details screen, click the checkbox next to the name for the student. You cannot resume a student who has a Ready, Submitted, or Marked Complete status. -Click Resume Test. More details on Resuming a Test can be found in section 10.0 Test Management in the Mississippi PearsonAccess User Guide.

Day(s) of Online Testing: Pausing and Exiting the Test Session Copyright © 2010 Pearson Education, Inc. or its affiliates. All rights reserved.14 When the student is in the online test and clicks the Exit button at the top right corner of the screen, the box below will appear with three options.

Day(s) of Online Testing: Pausing and Exiting the Test Session Copyright © 2010 Pearson Education, Inc. or its affiliates. All rights reserved.15 If the Exit button was clicked by mistake, the student can click the X Return to Test or the first option “I want to return to the test.” A green button will appear (Return to Test). The student should click the green button to return to the test.

Day(s) of Online Testing: Pausing and Exiting the Test Session Copyright © 2010 Pearson Education, Inc. or its affiliates. All rights reserved.16 The second option, “I want to exit this test and finish later” allows the student to PAUSE and exit the test. The student will be able to return to the test at a later time. This option can be used if the student needs to go to the restroom, has Accommodation 25, or has any other emergency. When the student clicks the green Finish Later button, the test is paused. The student will then click on Close TestNav to close the test. The student will be allowed to resume the test where he/she left off after the TA clicks the Resume Test beside the student’s name in the Session Details screen.

Day(s) of Online Testing: Pausing and Exiting the Test Session Copyright © 2010 Pearson Education, Inc. or its affiliates. All rights reserved.17 The third option, “I am finished with this test and I want to submit my final answers” should ONLY be selected when the student is ready to submit a test for scoring. When the student clicks the green Final Submit button, the test closes, and the student will NOT be able to return to the test.

Day(s) of Online Testing: Marking the Test Complete Copyright © 2010 Pearson Education, Inc. or its affiliates. All rights reserved.18 You can mark a single student’s test complete, or you can mark multiple students’ test complete. STCs or TAs would mark a student complete if (1) a student completes the test and accidentally exits a test instead of clicking Submit; or (2) a possible invalidation situation occurs with a student (illness, electronic violation, possible cheating, etc.) Before marking a student’s test complete, ensure that you understand the reason the student exited the test without submitting it. If the student needs to be invalidated, the DTC must gain permission from the OSA by using the Invalidation Survey Tool.

Day(s) of Online Testing: Remove and Move Students After Sessions Copyright © 2010 Pearson Education, Inc. or its affiliates. All rights reserved.19 A student should not be marked “complete” if the student was absent and is still in Ready status. The student should be MOVED to another session. Click in the box next to the student name and then click the Move button to select the session. A student should not be marked “complete” if the student was absent, still in Ready status, and NEVER tested. The student should be REMOVED from the session. Click on the student name and click the Remove button.

Online Testing: Stopping a Test Session Copyright © 2010 Pearson Education, Inc. or its affiliates. All rights reserved.20 After all students have completed the test and submitted their responses, you should manually stop the session. Test sessions must be stopped for tests to be scored. More information can be found in the MS PearsonAccess User Guide.

Online Testing: Early Warning System Copyright © 2010 Pearson Education, Inc. or its affiliates. All rights reserved.21 Certain circumstances, such as loss of an Internet connection, trigger the “Early Warning System” (EWS) on the interface that students see during testing. The EWS alerts students to possible problems with the transmission of their test data and allows the test administrator to take action to ensure student responses are captured. Work with the Technology Coordinator assigned to assist your school on the day of testing. For more details on the EWS and screenshots of possible scenarios, view the Online Test Administrator Quick Reference Guide located on the Support tab > User Documentation link on PearsonAccess.
