Kimberly Jones, Division Director II, Mississippi Department of Education Melinda Orta, Sr. Program Manager, Pearson Jackie Sampsell, Program Manager, Pearson Michael Marin, Online & Technology Implementation Trainer, Pearson Greg Acevedo, Sr. Project Manager, Pearson 2

Agenda 1. Online Testing Components 2. Best Practices and Recommendations 3. TestNav8 Support Site 4. PearsonAccess 5. Online Validation and Proctor Caching Activities 6. What’s New for Spring 2016 7. Important Dates 8. Questions and Answers 3

Online Testing Components 4 PearsonAccess (Administrative Website) http://www.pearsonaccess.com/ms/ http://www.pearsonaccess.com/ms/ Used by District Test Coordinators, School Test Coordinators, Test Administrators, and Technology Coordinators – DTCs Manage User Accounts & Security – Manage Student Data – Online Testing System Check Tool – Create, Modify, Monitor Online Test Sessions – Order test materials – Access score reports TestNav 8 (Online Testing Component of PearsonAccess) Used for SATP2 and MST2 Used by Students to take computer-based test Used by Test Administrators for Read-Aloud Accommodations Does not require Adobe Flash Player

Best Practices and Recommendations TestNav8 Support Page https://support.assessment.pearson.com/display/TN/TestNav+8+Online+Support Bookmark or Add as a Favorite Site Refer to Support Page for Requirements, Updates, Technical Bulletins Review “Recently Updated” link for a historical log of changes Performance Use Proctor Caching for best network performance. Use System Check extensively to test Proctor Caching and network environment before live testing. Use System Check to test wireless network capacity if using wireless clients. Using Installable Apps Note which specific device each student uses during each test Run App Check on each device 5 5

Best Practices and Recommendations Testing Computers Use System Check Tool (on http://www.pearsonaccess.com/ms/) to validate that testing machines meet minimum requirements.http://www.pearsonaccess.com/ms/ Freeze browser & Java environment if possible. Energy Saving features can interrupt testing, so the recommendation is to set those to not trigger during the length of the test. Testing Computers: -Prevent applications that launch automatically Any applications that may automatically launch on a computer should be configured not to launch during testing sessions. Common applications that may launch automatically include: – Anti-virus software performing automatic updates – Power management software on laptops warning of low batteries – Screen Savers – Email with Auto message notification 6 6

Best Practices and Recommendations For wireless testing: Wireless access points – more is better Limit the number of computers per wireless access point Distance – closer is better Limit obstructions Use the System Check Tool to verify that you have the appropriate amount of bandwidth for online testing Try a small number first for proof of concept Do not roll out a few hundred on the first attempt (baby steps) 7 7

Best Practices and Recommendations Conduct an Infrastructure Trial An Infrastructure Trial is an opportunity for districts and schools to prepare for the MST2 and SATP2 online testing by simulating test- day network utilization. This will help determine if there are any infrastructure issues to resolve and confirm all testing devices are properly configured and ready to run PearsonAccess and TestNav. The Infrastructure Trial User Guide is posted at www.PearsonAccess.com/ms >Support>tab>User Documentation www.PearsonAccess.com/ms 8 8

TestNav 8 Online Support - Getting Started & Demonstration 9

PearsonAccess Support: User Documentation 10

PearsonAccess Support: Downloads 11

PearsonAccess Support: Training 12 Recorded Open Labs PowerPoint Presentations Q&As “Mini” Recorded Trainings

PearsonAccess Support: ePATs (electronic Practice Assessment Tool) 13 No log in required Encourage students and teachers to use for practice prior to the administration to get familiar with TN8 tools.

TestNav Apps: Link added for accessing ePATs 14 If you are using a Chromebook to test and would like students to use ePATs prior to the testing window, Pearson is adding a “Practice Test” link to the Mississippi home page on the TestNav apps. After clicking the Practice Tests link, the user can then select which test they would like to use for practice. Caution: Please ask Test Administrator and Proctor to make sure that students using the apps for live testing are in the actual testing site. Please observe the top bar of the test screen to make sure that the student is NOT in an ePAT or Item Sampler during the actual test.

Combined SATP2 and MST2 Test Coordinator Manual 15

SATP2 and MST2 Test Administrator Manual 16 Valuable instructions for Test Administrations (TAs) to prepare for testing. Step-by-step guidelines of what to do the day of testing and after administering the online test. Contain the script (“Say” ) directions for online and paper-based sessions. Instructions to administer the Read Aloud accommodation test using the Proctor Authorization Ticket.

SATP2 and MST2 Ancillaries Posted on MDE SharePoint Site 17 https://districtaccess.mde.k12.ms.us/studentassessment Reminder: The 2015-2016 MS Test Coordinator Manual contains information for both SATP2 and MST2.

PearsonAccess Overview 18

Overview of PearsonAccess - 1 19 1. Administrative Management: This is where DTCs create and manage accounts for STCs, TAs, Technology Coordinators. 2. View Organizations: This is where you check to see if your contact information and administration information is correct.

Overview of PearsonAccess - 2 20 3. Order Additional Materials and Tracking: This is where you order materials for each administration. You also have the ability to track your shipments using this link. 4a.Register Students: This is where you perform steps 1, 2, and 3 during the online validation window.

Overview of PearsonAccess - 3 21 4b.Manage Test Sessions: This is where you perform steps 4 and 5 during the online validation window. 5. View Published Reports: This is where you view, save, and print district and school reports after an administration.

Ordering Test Materials Only order test materials for students who have an accommodation that requires a hard copy test book (Large Print, Braille, Paper Test Book) Additional Order (AO) window for MST2 is open now. Orders will be processed as received. SATP2 AO window will be re-opened on April 25, 2016. Refer to the recorded training#9: “How to Enter an Additional Order” 22

Online Validation Activities: MST2 and SATP2 Complete these steps when validation window opens: 1. Confirm student list 2. Confirm the students are in a Group: “Biology Test” or “Science Test” (schools/districts can create a custom name for class summary score reports, if needed) 3. Confirm the students have a test assigned (“Biology I” test etc.) 4. Create test sessions and add students to the sessions 5. Ensure Proctor Cache software is installed and pre-cache content Step-by-Step instructions and screenshots are in the 2015-2016 SATP2 & MST2 Test Coordinator Manual (pages 22-33). 23

Reminder: Proctor Caching 24 The last step of the Registration/Validation process is to ensure that Proctor Caching has been set up for each session. Pre-cache test content through PearsonAccess. Once this step is complete, you will be able to see that the “Form/Form Group Type” for each student in the session is updated from Main, Accommodation, or Accommodation-Read Aloud to the form name. In this case the “Form/Form Group Type” is Biology I – 2A. Please refer to page 32-33 in your MS Test Coordinator Manual for additional information.

SATP2 and MST2 - 2016 Testing platform moved from TestNav 7 platform to TestNav 8. This is the first year all SATP2 administrations will be testing online only (no paper testing). ALL answers will be entered online even if the student takes the test using Large Print, Braille or paper accommodation. MST2 tested all students online in 2015 and will continue for 2016. Read Aloud (Proctor Authorization Ticket) – Test administrators will now use the Proctor Authorization Ticket for Read-Aloud sessions. The test administrator will read from the computer (electronic device). Materials are now shipping from Cedar Rapids instead of Austin. It is important for districts to use only the new labels with the Cedar Rapids address. 25

New for 2015-2016: Read Aloud Accommodation To match the paper Form to the Online Form, the students must be placed in the appropriate Accommodation Default Form Group Type when they are assigned a test session in PearsonAccess. Please refer to the mini training on how to create test sessions (Main, Accommodation, or Accommodation – Read Aloud) to help determine what option to choose for the “Default Form Group Type”. 26

New! Proctor Authorization Tickets Test Administrators will read from the computer (electronic device) and not from a paper book, for Read-Aloud Accommodations. A Proctor Authorization Ticket allows a test administrator to log in and view the same test that the Read-aloud session students are taking. Proctor Authorizations are needed only for Read-aloud test sessions. Please refer to the mini-trainings and Test Administration Manuals on how to generate authorization tickets. 27
