4 Online Testing Components Copyright © 2010 Pearson Education, Inc. or its affiliates. All rights reserved. PearsonAccess (Administrative Website) http://www.pearsonaccess.com/ms/ Used by District Test Coordinators, School Test Coordinators, and Test Administrators – Manage Student Data – Create, Modify, Monitor Online Test Sessions – Manage User Accounts & Security TestNav (Online Component of PearsonAccess) TestNav 7.5 Used for SATP2 and MST2 Used by Students to take computer based test Browser-based application Proctor Caching – Mandated for Mississippi Online Accelerates the delivery of test content Reduces the amount of bandwidth required for online testing System Check Assists technology personnel with site readiness 4

5 TestNav 7.5 TestNav™ 7.5 is a “zero-footprint” browser-based test delivery system that requires no download or installation by our customers. TestNav 7.5 lowers the labor required to implement and maintain the test delivery system. TestNav installs its components when the student launches it to take a test, and removes its components once the test is over. TestNav 7.5 is cross-platform: compatible with Windows and Mac operating systems. Students log in by means of “authorization tickets” that provide one-time access to specific tests. 5 Copyright © 2010 Pearson Education, Inc. or its affiliates. All rights reserved.5

6 Best Practices and Recommendations Performance: Use Proctor Caching for best network performance. Use System Check extensively to test Proctor Caching and network environment before live testing. Use System Check to test wireless network capacity if using wireless clients. Testing Computers: Use System Check to validate that testing machines meet minimum requirements. Freeze browser, Adobe Flash Player, & Java environment if possible. Energy Saving features can interrupt testing, so the recommendation is to set those to not trigger during the length of the test. 6 Copyright © 2010 Pearson Education, Inc. or its affiliates. 7 Best Practices and Recommendations Testing Computers: -Prevent applications that launch automatically Any applications that may automatically launch on a computer should be configured not to launch during testing sessions. Common applications that may launch automatically include: – Anti-virus software performing automatic updates – Power management software on laptops warning of low batteries – Screen Savers – Email with Auto message notification 7 Copyright © 2010 Pearson Education, Inc. or its affiliates. 8 Best Practices and Recommendations For wireless testing: Wireless access points – more is better Limit the number of computers per wireless access point Distance – closer is better Limit obstructions Use the System Check Utility to verify that you have the appropriate amount of bandwidth for online testing Try a small number first for proof of concept Do not roll out a few hundred on the first attempt (baby steps) 8 Copyright © 2010 Pearson Education, Inc. or its affiliates. List all group names before beginning the process. For example, if you want to move students into teacher class groups, put the teacher name and grade level or class period (i.e., Jones – Gr 8, Smith – Gr 5) at the top of the list of students you will move. Limit the group names to 20 characters.
