Learning is our Voyage Knowledge is our Quest The world is our Classroom

Traci Papst Mathematics I’ve been teaching for 12 years Bachelor of Ed with minors in math and reading from West Chester U Masters in Math Ed from Arcadia U Parent of two precious little ones: Orin and Aria (4.5yrs and almost 2 respectively)

Philosophy What I want for my kids: –Valued (liked and cared for) –Challenged and pushed to take risks –Held accountable as a person and for own learning –Learn the skills to work in any setting –Learning personalized to needs

We are utilizing a new version of Everyday Math called EDM 4.. This math program is newly aligned with the Pennsylvania Common Core state standards. It offers a problem-solving approach using math in everyday situations, a balance of independent, partner, and small group activities, concepts and skills introduced and reviewed throughout the year, many hands-on activities, differentiated instruction, and communication in mathematical terms. I will begin to challenge students who show math strength beginning with Unit 2. *Math

Two times during the year, the students will take a diagnostic test called Study Island. This test tells us what your child has mastered, drives our instruction, and is helpful in preparing students for the PSSA test administered in the spring. Basic facts are a must. Please review and make sure your child has immediate recall of facts through 10.

Each night (M-Th) the students will have math homework. Ten to twenty minutes for math work should be adequate. If math homework takes your child longer than usual, please have your child stop and write me a note. Homework on Friday is to clean out their folders and book bag. Thank you for assisting and checking homework sheets daily Answers to the Home Links are included with the Family Letter at the beginning of each Unit. Please feel free to use it to assist your child with homework if necessary. Homework

The grading system used is based on school district policy; A=90-100, B=80-89, C=70-79, D=65-69, and F=below 65. Math tests are worth 60%, quizzes are worth 35%, and homework is worth 5% of the final grade average. Any student who receives below 70% on a math test must complete item error analysis. This will enable the student to have an opportunity to increase the score and master the material covered. Any student may retake a Concept Quiz once only and receive full credit. Report Cards

Thank you for coming! Parental/custodial involvement is the key to success!! Please keep in touch. I am willing to do anything to help your child be successful and I am happy to work with you to provide the best framework possible for your child’s education.
