SUBJECT - Technical Terms OF Doors And Types Of Doors. Name- kalsariya rakesh 130940106021 kalsariya bhavdip 130940106022 Guided by - Snehal M. Mistry.

Technical Terms of doors.

2. shutter- These are the operable parts of a door or 1. frame – It is an assembly of horizontal and vertical members forming an enclosure which are fixed. 2. shutter- These are the operable parts of a door or window. It is an assembly of styles , panels, and rail. 3. Head - The top horizontal member of a frame is know as head. 4. sill- The bottom horizontal member of a window frame is known as sill. style- style is the vertical outside member of shutter of door.

6. horn- These is the horizontal projecting of head and sill of frame to facilitate the fixing of frame on the wall opening. 7. Top rail – These is top horizontal of a shutter. 8. bottom rail – This is the lower most horizontal member of a shutter. 9.Lock rail – This the middle horizontal member of shutter. 10. panel – The area of shutter enclosed between the adjecent rails is called a panel. 11. Mullion – This is a vertical member of a frame , which is employed to sub divided a window or doors.

12. Transom – Thise is a vertical member of a frame which is employed to sub divide a window or door. 13. Hold fasts- These are mild steel flats bent into shapes to fixed the frame to the opening. 14.Jamb- This is the vertical wall face of an opening which supports the frame. 15. revel- It is the external jamb of a door or window opening. 16. rebate. – It is the depression or recess made inside the door frame to receive the door shutter.

Frieze rail- A rail fixed between the top rail and lock rail is called frieze rail. 18.Threshold- This is a cross wooden piece fixed to the floor under a door frame which forms the sill. 19. louvers. – These are the pieces of timber or plate glass which are fixed in inclined position in a frame work to form a window shutter door panel. 20. sash. – This is a special type frame , made of light sectioons and designed to carry glass. 21. architrave.- This is a strip of wood usually molded or splayed which is fixed round a door frame to improve its appearance.

Types of door Ledged door A ledged door is formed of vertical board , known as battons, which are secured by horizontal support ,known as ledges. Battens are 10cm to 15cm wide and 20mm to 30mm thick. Ledges are 10cm to 20cm wide and 30mm thick. Uses= This door used for narrow openings.

Ledged ,braced and framed door In this type of door ,a framework for shutter is provided to make the doors stronger and better in appearance. It can be used for external use. The braces should incline upward from the hanging side.

Ledged and braced door These are similar to ledged doors except that diagonal member ,known as braces are provided. The braces are generally 10cm to 15cm wide and 30mm thick. The braces give rigidity to the door and hence door of this type are useful for wide opening. ces

Panelled door These types of doors are used in almost all type of building. They are strong and give better appearance than battened door. The panel are made from timber, plywood, block board. The number of panels varies from 1 to 6. for small openings the shutter are of single leaf while double-leafed shutter are used for large opening.

Glazed door Gladged door are provided additional light is required to b e admitted to the room the door or where the visibility of the interior of room is required from the room. These doors may be fully glazed or partly glazed and partly panelled. These doors are commonly used for hospital ,offices , libraries, shopping units etc.

Flush door Flush door are becoming popular these days because of their pleasing apearance , simplicity of construction , less cost , better strengh and greater durability. they are used for residential as well as public and commerical building. flush door are termite proof ,crack proof and easy to clean. two type- 1. solid core flushdoor 2. hollow core flush door

Fly proof door These doors are used it is desired to allow the free air into the room but to avoid the nuisance of files , mosquitoes , insects etc. These types of doors commonly used for refreshment rooms , kitchens, storing food , sweet shops , hotel etc.

Revolving door A revolving door consist of a central support to which four radiating shutter are attached. The shutter may be fully glazed, fully panelled or partly glazed and partly panelled. These doors keep the opening automatically closed when it is not in use. These types of doors provided bank, hotels, offices, hospital.

Sliding door In this type of doors the shutter slides on the sides with help of runers and guide. the shutter of this type of door consists of one of more panels which can slide on one side . They are commonly used for the entrances of godowns , sheds, showroom , gorges etc.

Collapsible door A Collapsible door consist a mild steel frame. Two vertical pieces of mild steel channels about 15mm to 20mm wide are jointed hollow portion of channel inside. A vertical gap of about 12cm center to center and are jointed together by cross iron pieces. These doors used residential building , shops, garages, sheds, godowns..

Rolling steel door A rolling steel door shutter door consist of frame a drum and shutter of thin steel or iron sheets of thickness 1mm. A horizontal shafts and springs are provided in the drum at the top. The diameter of drum is 20 to 30cm. Used garages , shoe room , shops, Godowns, factory buildings etc.

Louvered door In these type of doors shutter are provided with louvers , either fully or partly. Upward and downward movement of louvers can be carried out with help of vertical pieces of timber. These type of doors used public buildings , residential buildings.
