Do your research Keep an eye on the Outbound Travel Advice notice issued by the HKSAR Government & local government & use ROTIOutbound Travel Adviceuse ROTI Check local conditions and customs that may present health/safety risks. Check local emergency number/ medical help. Check local internet/ phone connection. Learn how to say crucial phrases like: “Please,” “Thank You,” “I need help!” in local language.

Pack Smart Travel document(s) Air ticket Accommodation Make two photocopies of all your travel documents in case of emergency or if your documents are lost or stolen. Keep one copy with you and leave one copy at home. Keep emergency information in a handy place.

Handle Money Overseas Check the exchange rate. Budget your trip. Before you leave, notify your bank, credit card company that you are going overseas. Avoid carrying cash and consider using major credit cards instead (but make sure they are accepted at your internship city before departing).

Stay Connected Check local internet/ phone connection in advance. us when you arrive the internship city. Inform us of your offshore contact once available. Keep your family members and friends updated with your travel plans/ local contact.

Home Safety Keep your room, door and windows locked. Keep curtain drawn when you are away. Require callers to identify themselves before opening the door. Do not allow strangers to follow you into the residence. Learn the location of fire exits in the building and know your escape route.

Stay Alert Beware of local conditions and customs that may present health/safety risks Do not flash large sums of cash when paying. Be cautious with your smartphone, technical devices or other valuables. Be skeptical of free offers from strangers like free rides or free drinks. Pay attention to who is around you and leave anytime if you feel uncomfortable.

Travel smart Gestures that might be misunderstood. If possible, travel with others. Don't take a vehicle that is not clearly identified as a taxi. Compare the face of the driver with the one on his or her license. Send the taxi number to your local friends/ colleagues. Avoid night travel, quiet zones and shortcuts.

Prepared for an Emergency Stay calm. Keep emergency information handy. Local emergency number/ medical help. Keep a mental note of safe havens, such as police stations, hotels, hospitals, Embassy. Contact family/ host organization/ us.

Subsidy Arrangement As student interns under GIP, you are required to: Keep all the original copy of receipts for POTENTIAL subsidy arrangements. Submission template will be provided later. Subsidy might be granted, considering various factors, e.g. the location and duration of internship, the availability of stipend, family financial situation, etc. Subsidy levels are varied and will be adjusted each year. Your Obligations As student interns under GIP, you are required to: Complete and return the “Learning Journal”; Provide feedback on the internship (questionnaires, and/or sharing sessions); Provide some pictures and/or video clippings of the internship exposure, and articles to share the experience; Attend Evaluation Session after the internship Attend the Certificate Presentation Ceremony to be held in Fall 2016 (except students that leave Hong Kong for exchange studies); Help promote Global Internship Programme 2017
