INFORMATIVE ESSAY Synonyms (AKA): Explanatory Expository Purpose: Seeks to explain Ex. – If you were to write an informative/explanatory/expository essay about your aunt, you would simply tell me about your aunt. Ex. – If you were to write an informative/explanatory/expository essay about how to construct a paper airplane, you would write an essay giving directions.

INFORMATIVE ESSAY Five (5) Sections: Introduction Includes your thesis Thesis sentence is road map of your essay. You cannot write a paper correctly without it! Your thesis sentences keeps you from getting lost when you are writing. ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS write out your thesis sentence. Three (3) Body Paragraphs The “meat” of the essay Where you further explain and add details. Conclusion Restate theis Sum it up! Each section should focus solely on what you are attempting to explain! Don’t deviate from the subject (Don’t go off topic)

INFORMATIVE ESSAY All GOOD Informative Essays contain: Single Topic Focused Structure Start with Intro; end with Conclusion Transitions – words that help you move smoothly from one idea to the next Ex. - first, another, most important, for example, on the other hand, etc. Development Give information that will make your essay interesting and fun to read. Vivid detail and description DON’T FORGET! Your one and only job is to explain! Don’t leave ay important details out!
