US Soccer Changes Age Brackets – Use Birth Year instead of School Year – To align with the other 208 countries that use Birth Year age brackets – Improved player development – US Soccer Mandate – Aug 2017 – US Youth Soccer will start with Season

New Age Brackets Season Birth Year 2014 U U-6U U-6U-7U U-6U-7U-8U U-7U-8U-9U U-8U-9U-10U U-9U-10U-11U U-10U-11U-12U U-11U-12U-13U U-12U-13U-14U U-13U-14U-15U U-14U-15U-16U U-15U-16U-17U U-16U-17U U-17U U

New Age Brackets Simple Calculation: Year Season Ends – Birth Year = Age Group: – 2004 = U – 2008 = U – 2012 = U6

US Soccer Changes Small Sided Games – Anything less than 11 v 11 is a Small Sided Game – Smaller Goals, Smaller Ball, Shorter Duration – Start with 2016 Fall Season – With fewer players on a smaller field, players are more directly involved in the action of the game.

US Soccer Changes Three Referees – All 11 v 11 Games will use 3 Referees – Small sided games will continue to use 2 referees.

Concussion Policy Players in U-11 programs and younger shall not engage in heading, neither in practices nor in games. Limited heading in practice for players in U-12 and U-13 programs. Clubs should be aware of circumstances in which individual consideration is needed Referees should enforce these restrictions by age group according to the specified rules

Sacred Heart: How are we affected? League Play – All US Soccer members are required to institute these initiatives by August – US Youth Soccer will start with Season – Local leagues, CMSA, BBSL, HCSL will apply these rules starting Fall 2016 – ABSP (CYO) will not adopt the US Soccer suggested changes.

Archdiocese of Baltimore Soccer Program ABSP – CYO USSF Rule changes for fall 2016 season At its February board meeting, the board discussed the various suggestions made by the USSF regarding age, team size, field size, number of referees, game times, etc. Importantly, the board reviewed, and gave great consideration to, the comments, suggestions and recommendations that were submitted by various programs. By and large the input from the programs was not to implement the suggested changes. (Only one program supported adoption of any of the suggested changes--and that program recommended a gradual phase-in of the suggested “age” change). In light of the foregoing, the board voted not to implement the USSF suggested changes. The board will review its decision following the coming season. The board suggests, therefore, that if your program did not make its position on the suggested changes known to the board, that it should still do so as the board will review its decision following the conclusion of the coming season. Tim Madden President Archdiocese of Baltimore Soccer Program
