Children are healthy and ready to learn Children are prepared for kindergarten Parents and caregivers are actively engaged in their children’s education Students are academically proficient Youth are prepared to graduate from high school, ready for college or career The EDCI Zone is a safe, healthy, and economically thriving community EDCI Overarching Goals

Durham Connects and EDCI Durham Connects is a universal nurse home-visiting program with targeted efforts in the EDCI Zone. 174 EDCI Zone families have received a nurse home visit since % EDCI Zone families with newborns received a nurse visit last year 87% families referred to community resource or agency 65% families referred to Healthy Families Pilot one year follow-up visits with EDCI families will begin this year

Overall reach Over 1,000 East Durham children enrolled since 2011, 58% still engaged 24% of enrolled children engaged in 3+ EDCI programs Children are healthy and ready to learn 140 families with children ages 0-3 received early childhood home-visiting services  Improved parenting attitudes and satisfactory home environments  96% children have up-to-date immunizations 140 students receive BackPack buddies each year at Y.E. Smith Elementary 500 children and 193 adults served at EDCI Summer Lunch 2015 Children are prepared for kindergarten Increased access to high-quality childcare via subsidy prioritizations 22 children (3-4 year olds) enrolled in half-day, bilingual EDCI LEAP Academy Increased school readiness skills for Stepping Stones and Academy children EDCI Impact

Parents and caregivers are actively engaged in their children’s education Six EDCI Parent Advocates focused on supporting parents and caregivers with early childhood and elementary school children, over 160 families engaged Students are academically proficient More than 60 students improved literacy skills through HillRAP tutoring Over 250 kids participated in EDCI Summer Camp since 2011; summer learning loss is prevented New EDCI STEAM Saturdays, Spring Break, and Summer programs New EDCI Middle School Youth Advocate The EDCI Zone is a safe, healthy, and economically thriving community New college savings account initiative with kindergarteners at Y.E. Smith Elementary New two generational supports include career coaching, financial literacy, & tax help Durham Technical Community College scholarship offered to EDCI parent EDCI Impact
