SCHOOL ATTENDANCE ACTION TEAM Coordinates WAKE Up and Read efforts focused on reducing school absence Create an attendance message to give to parents when they register their child Establish a baseline of organizations that currently include messages to families about attendance as it relates to academic achievement

MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS ACTION TEAM Coordinates WAKE Up and Read efforts to spread the word about all pillars of our work Create cohesive messaging and communication strategies for school readiness, summer learning loss, and attendance Secure publicity for book drive Lead social media efforts and drive public awareness

SUMMER LEARNING LOSS ACTION TEAM Coordinates WAKE Up and Read efforts focused on combating summer learning loss Support the Book Drive Committee which provides 10 books to every student in 10 high-poverty schools before summer/track-out breaks Survey families attending literacy events at the 10 schools about awareness of strategies for supporting literacy Develop print and online resources for literacy strategies for families of elementary-aged children

SUMMER LEARNING LOSS 2015 Book Drive Successes Collected: 115,000 books through 150 collection sites Distributed books to 9 elementary schools, 20 child care facilities, and 9 community centers Impacted at least 7,200 children (5,950 WCPSS students and 1,250 childcare children) 400+ volunteers contributed over 1,000 hours of time

17. 2016 WAKE Up and Read Annual Book Drive 110,000 BOOKS 10 SCHOOLS 10 BOOKS FOR EVERY CHILD Goal: 110,000 books in 1 month February 1 – February 29 Books for children ages birth – 12 Distribution at 10 schools and nearby childcare and community centers
