Researchers have discovered that peer networks may help make the net work better - and more beautifully. MIT's Technology Review ran an article about mapping the internet - by Duncan Graham-Rowe. It follows research done to work out how the internet is organized, being conducted by researchers at Bar Ilan University. What they've found is interesting, and when represented graphically, pretty astounding. 6/10/2016Kathie Carwile Morgan, Ed.D. 2 Johnson, Bobbie, (2007). How peer to peer makes the net better, Technology Blog. The Guardian.

Technology Technology can make almost anything easier! Technology can help integrate the curriculum. Technology makes collaboration possible with other teachers, parents and students across time and space. -Technology often helps retain attention and keeps students motivated -Technology allows easier connections across topics due to access to the Internet. 6/10/20163Kathie Carwile Morgan, Ed.D.

Technology in a school The Downside  It takes money  It takes training  It takes time  It can be distracting and frustrating when things don’t work correctly These concerns must be considered and dealt with in any school. Those that are shareholders in the school should have a voice in the discussion. Ultimately, the question is: Which pieces will positively impact learning the most? 6/10/2016Kathie Carwile Morgan, Ed.D. 4

Visual presenters and Document Cameras (ELMO) is an example of a projections device that allows the teacher to project a real book page, a computer screen shot or physical article onto the screen. Some of the devices have microscope capabilities. The screen can also be used as a projectable writing surface. The image can be “saved” for later. 6/10/201610Kathie Carwile Morgan, Ed.D.

Interactive white boards (Promethean, Smartboard) allow the teacher to use the surface as a writing space and to then “copy and save” for use at a later time. The handwriting on the board either numbers can be brought up for further work. The board also have the capability to be used as a projection device for presentation (PowerPoint) and can project the web live with includes a touch screen. 6/10/201611Kathie Carwile Morgan, Ed.D.

Digital cameras provide instant records and evidence of events. Most tiny cameras can record video making use in the classroom easier than it has ever been. Pictures download to the computer automatically. 6/10/201612Kathie Carwile Morgan, Ed.D.
