22 Theresa Gabor, CCCOE Putting it All Together: This Presentation Used bookmark site to keep track of sites I wanted to use and could access those sites from any computer Read blogs and listened to podcasts to gather information Wrote the document in Google Docs so I could access it from anywhere and share it with team Posted it on a wiki so I (or anyone) can add resources as needed Used video from an online sharing site Included content from experts

23 Theresa Gabor, CCCOE So what? 93% of teens use the Internet 55% of online teens use social networking sites 64% are creating content and posting it on the web –1 in 6 create multimedia compositions every week –1 in 7 create characters every week –1 in 5 post comments every week

24 Theresa Gabor, CCCOE So what? At 7 th grade, the number of students online jumps 50% of online students use social networking sites to discuss schoolwork Teens are texting, blogging, messaging, posting photos and videos as a normal part of their lives.

25 Theresa Gabor, CCCOE But… 8 in 10 districts don’t allow online chatting or IMs in school 6 in 10 districts prohibit posting on blogs 6 in 10 districts prohibit email in school More than 50% of districts forbid using social networking sites at school

26 Theresa Gabor, CCCOE So What? We are not keeping up with the needs, skills and interests of our students!
