How the NextGen Florida Test Bed could enable integration of Domestic and International Space Traffic airspace

What is NextGen? NextGen is a series of FAA Sponsored programs focused on evolving the National Airspace (NAS) to safely increase efficiencies and capacity. These programs represent an evolution from a ground-based system of air traffic control to a satellite-based system of air traffic management ERAU is a Trusted NextGen Partner with an 8 Year legacy and a 5 year contract extension until 2018 to lead the Florida Test Bed.  The Test bed conducts research, rapid prototyping and demonstrations of emerging technologies for Air Traffic Management

NextGen Impacts and Results FAA estimates that NextGen will reduce total flight delays about 38 percent by 2020, while providing $24 billion in cumulative benefits to the traveling public, aircraft operators, and the FAA NextGen has produced over 10,000 jobs locally and Nationally to Private Industry, Government and Academia. NextGen economic multipliers to downstream interests such as Hotels, Rental Car Companies, Equipment Manufactures exceeds $10B More direct routes are saving a minimum of 300 gallons of fuel per flight. Aircraft owners will save about 1.4 billion gallons of fuel by 2020, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 14 million tons.

Mini-Global Overview The Mini Global Demonstration program aligns with the vision of collaborative global leadership in aviation. Mini Global demonstrated the applicability of global exchange models for Flight, Aeronautical and Weather information using the FIXM, AIXM, and WXXM standards. The demonstration will show how the FAA, International ANSPs and flight operators are able to share common information within and across all regions to:  Improve Collaborative Decision Making (CDM)  Improve Air Traffic Management (ATM)  Promote international harmonization 13
