University of Nebraska For NETA Barbara Wolf Shousha, Director April , 2013

University of Nebraska High School Accredited –The Nebraska Department of Education –AdvancED (parent organization of The North Central Association) –NCAA has approved our core courses; Tier One for Military Complete High School Curriculum –Over100 courses in core, elective and Advanced Placement Full Academic and Support Staff –Director, Principal, Academic Advisor, Certificated Teachers School and Learning Organization Focus –Transcript review and analysis, credit transferred to local schools

Presentation Agenda The Central Question : How can we keep students on the path to graduation with online opportunities? Review Challenges Faced by Schools Discuss Online Options for Schools and Students Using Questions to Choose Online Options

Challenges Limited resources against a broad array of students Smaller population of students – same geography Teachers multi-tasking, multiple preps Student / Parent expectations

Online Options Curriculum Objects for Blended Learning –Flipped Classroom Software –Credit Recovery Full Service Options –University Sponsored Schools –For-Profit Schools It is not EITHER / OR it is BOTH / AND.

Questions to Clarify Goals What is the problem we are trying to solve? What is the value we are trying to create? What can we do locally? What should we do locally? Does this meet our standards and requirements –Accredited? –Matched to state standards? –Transcripting, progress reporting? –NCAA Approved? –Tier One for military recruiting?

Alternative Education – Need Flexibility "Your support and course offerings are a godsend. Many of these classes would be impossible in a traditional setting, nor would the students be able to make up lost time and classes as they are able working with you."

Small School - Foreign Language “(We are) a small school in a remotely populated area. These courses are important to our students to fulfill foreign language requirements at many colleges and universities. We do not have a foreign language teacher on staff at our small school.”

Students at Different Skill Levels "We are a small rural school who has had to cut classes due to the reduction of staff. I have two students on both ends of the educational spectrum. The Pre Algebra student needs more instruction in the math area as she is s senior who needs to improve her math skills. My other student is a newly transferred student who took three years of Spanish in his previous school and wanted to take the 4th year of Spanish before he goes to a 4 year college."

One Student Needs Advanced Class "We have an advanced student who qualifies to take Physics but we couldn't offer it this year because of numbers. Being a Class C-1 school we couldn't justify a class for one student. This scholarship would allow our student to experience Physics before he goes to college."

Thank you! Questions? Barbara Shousha, Director Website:
