 FOCUS…….  Building resilience of agriculture to climate change and natural disasters is a priority  Support for increased productivity to ensure FS&N, Poverty alleviation and hunger eradication.  Enhanced quantity and quality of production along the value chain is important in the small scale agriculture sector  Fisherfolk, Farmers and Pastorals organizations (at regional, national and primary levels) should be supported to build their capacity to effectively represent their members in governance processes – Capacity building within these organizations is critical to strengthen their internal governance arrangements, leadership and management (including human resource, financial management), sustainable financing, partnerships, communication, advocacy and policy influence.  Governance for food and nutrition security – Work on governance for food and nutrition security in the Caribbean should include support for implementation of the Caribbean Community Common Fisheries Policy and the Action Plan  Strengthening Small Scale Fisheries – Efforts should focus on implementation of the Global Small Scale Fisheries Guidelines & Voluntary Guidelines on Governance of Tenure in Fisheries via support for the SIDS to access the Global Assistance Programme and Work Programme. Work would include implementation of these Guidelines via regional and national policies and plans, and practical national and local initiatives.

Recommendations for Sustained Small Scale Agriculture Small Scale agriculture Should be considered across the SIDSs program of work Mechanisms for effective engagement of farmers, fisherfolk and pastorals in governance and management should be created or strengthened at global, regional, national and local levels. Implementation of global and regional policies should be facilitated through the programme of work.

GEF/SLP– Project “Reducing climate Risk of Young Farmers through Agricultural Production & water Management Strategies in Antigua & Barbuda TFPC Team Fresh Produce Cooperative (CaFAN) Antigua & Barbuda

In summary the SAMOA Pathway and subsequent Milan Declaration highlighted the urgent need to develop food security in SIDS, The alleviation of poverty and the eradication of hunger with multi-lateral trading systems and trade policies playing a critical role. Implementation would be achieved through developing partnerships, the technology facilitation mechanism and financing. These would offer SIDS an important basis for seeking support to implement the systems and processes required by small farmers, fisherfolks and pastorals to adapt and to build resilience in their attempts to be SUSTAINABLE. CONCLUSION

THANK YOU!!!
