Day in the life Type 1 diabetes is a life long condition which needs to be carefully managed and understood This film has been produced to give an insight into how people live with type 1 each day and to help you share their experiences with your students to develop their understanding too

What is diabetes? A lifelong condition where the body is unable to regulate blood-glucose levels A body with diabetes does not make enough insulin (type 1) or the body is resistant to insulin (type 2). Too much glucose stays in the blood stream and isn’t able to be used as fuel

Type 1 and Type 2 There are different types of diabetes, which have very different causes. The most common are type 1 and type 2

Type 1 This presentation focuses on type 1 diabetes. It is the most common type in children and young people Type 1 diabetes is on the increase, particularly in children under 5. There has been a five fold increase in this age group in the last 20 years
