Northwood Middle School Honor Level System Fall 2008

Honor Level Overview The Honor Level System has two functions: 1. Recognizing students who consistently follow the rules and contribute to a positive school environment. 2. Assigning consequences to students who do not follow the rules or contribute to a positive school environment.

Honor Levels All students begin on Honor Level 1 Students only move to higher Honor Levels if they receive infractions. All infractions will result in consequences for the students. The specific consequence is determined by the severity of the infraction and how many infractions the student has received in the last two weeks.

Honor Levels Honor Levels are calculated by totaling the points for ‘active’ infractions** Honor Level One = 0 points Honor Level Two = 1 – 10 points Honor Level Three =11 – 20 points Honor Level Four = 21 or more points ** Active infractions are infractions received in the last two weeks

Infractions When misbehavior or a violation of school rules occurs staff members will assign infractions. Students will be given the opportunity to sign the infraction and ask questions if desired. Infractions are then recorded and consequences are assigned.

Infraction Slip Failure to: (1)A:Arrive to class on time (3rd Tardy). (3)B:Arrive to class on time (4th Tardy) (5)C:Arrive to class on time (5th or more Tardies) (1)D:Come to class with all necessary materials. (1)E:Move through building in orderly manner. (3)F:Limit display of affection. (3)G:Failure to follow class or school routine: ___________ _______________________________________________ (3)H:Respect school property & property of others. (3)I:Observe dress code policy (1st violation). (5)J:Observe dress code policy (repeat violation) (3)K:Avoid disruptive behavior (minor severity). (5)L:Avoid disruptive behavior (moderate severity). (5)M:Use appropriate language (5)N:Settle conflicts appropriately. (5)O:Respond appropriately to staff request. (5)P:Treat peers/staff with respect. (7)Q:Multiple Infractions. *Mark all violations, but only 7 point multiple infraction will be entered.

Infraction Active Period Infractions are recorded in a computer data base. The system keeps an infraction “active” for 14 days. If, after 14 days, a student has not earned an infraction they will return to Honor Level 1 and regain their privileges. Students will be notified when they return to Honor Level One.

Privileges Students who remain on Honor Level 1 and Honor Level 2 will maintain their school privileges and earn periodic rewards. Reward examples: popcorn, early lunch dismissal, treats, PAWs, etc.... Students on Honor Levels 1 and 2 will be allowed to attend after school/evening events and all assemblies

Consequences Consequences are progressive and follow this pattern:  Lunch detention  3 days lunch detention  After School Detention  Thursday Night School  ISS  3 days ISS  Office Referral

Consequences Students on Honor Level 3 and Honor Level 4 will not be allowed to attend after school/evening events or assemblies
