1 SACHEM H.S. EAST 2016-2017 ORIENTATION
There is a choice you have to make in everything you do. So keep in mind that in the end, the choice you make, makes you!

3 HOW TO GET AROUND SACHEM EAST
Avoid Main Street if possible The first floor is the least congested Take perimeter stairwells Carry books to avoid stopping at your locker When leaving the cafeteria, take the stairwell located next to Café B to the first floor

4 HALL LOCKERS The locker you are given in 9th grade is yours for your high school career You (your parents $) are responsible for any damage (vandalism, graffiti, etc.) to your locker. Take care of it. NEVER give out your locker combination and keep it locked.

5 ID CARDS Every student is responsible for having their ID card on them. You must produce your ID card upon request. Failure to do so will result in disciplinary consequences. ID cards are required to gain access to the cafeterias, library and bathrooms. Replacements can be purchased in the Main Office for $3.00

6 CUMULATIVE POINTS SYSTEM
Students who commit disciplinary infractions will be held accountable by way of a point system: Each day of detention will be assigned a ½ point Each day of extended detention will be assigned 1 point Each day of ISS will be assigned 1 point Each day of OSS will be assigned 2 points You may earn back 3 points for every marking period that you do not receive any disciplinary referrals.

7 CUMULATIVE POINTS SYSTEM
You will be assigned ½ point for every report of no ID card. If you come to school without your ID , you should report to the Main Office to obtain a new one.

8 Having the most points doesn’t make you the winner...
Students who accumulate 10 or more points during the school year will forfeit privileges to attend all high school social events, including dinner dances, banquets, prom and any other school sponsored events. Additionally you will not be permitted to participate in school clubs or on athletic teams. Every student is responsible for knowing how many points they have accumulated.

9 Appropriate student conduct
Attend all classes regularly and be prepared to work when the bell rings. Follow specific rules in each class. Behave in a way that contributes to a positive school environment. Speak and dress in a manner that is in good taste and appropriate for school.

10 APPROPRIATE STUDENT CONDUCT
Follow the direction of school personnel Move through the hallways with a purpose; you need to be on time to physical education class and your cafeteria for lunch Treat students, teachers and staff with respect and you will be treated the same Help maintain a school free of drugs, alcohol and any other controlled substances Obey New York State laws which prohibit smoking on school grounds E-Cigarettes are considered to be drug paraphernalia and result in a 5 day out of school suspension.

11 BULLYING, HAZING, FIGHTING AND HARASSMENT: 5 DAY OUT-OF-SCHOOL SUSPENSION

12 DASA: DIGNITY FOR ALL STUDENTS ACT
Harassment and/or Discrimination Having the effect of substantially interfering with a student's educational performance, opportunities or benefits, or mental, emotional and/or physical well-being….INCLUDES CYBER-BULLYING (FACEBOOK/TWITTER). Causing a student to fear for his or her physical safety. Such conduct shall include, but is not limited to, threats, intimidation or abuse based on a person's actual or perceived race, color, weight, national origin, ethnic group, religion, religious practices, disability, sexual orientation, gender, or sex Off school-property conduct that disrupts the school environment falls under DASA…….

13 STUDENT DRESS AND APPEARANCE
Do not disrupt or interfere with the educational process that takes place during a typical school day Recognize that extremely brief garments and see-through garments are not appropriate Ensure that pants are around your waist and underwear not exposed Hats are not allowed to be worn ANYWHERE within the building Clothing items that are vulgar/obscene or offensive to other people’s race, color, religion, creed, national origin, gender, sexual orientation or disability are NOT ALLOWED Clothing CANNOT promote the use of alcohol, tobacco, illegal drugs or encourage illegal crimes

14 9th PERIOD ACTIVITIES You must be in a supervised setting from 1:45- 2:27pm Clubs: Club Fair, see Dr. Galligan for list of clubs and questions Extra Help is available 9th period. Ask your teacher about setting up a time to meet The library is open 9th period if you can’t go during your lunch period
