Welcome to Open House Jessica Wolbert 7 th Grade Math

Introduction Jessica Wolbert 15 th year at Wydown Certifications B.A. in Middle School Education with an emphasis in math and science M.A.T in Math Education with an emphasis in middle school Mom to Mason

My goal is to…. Maximize student learning in the classroom. *Hold high expectations. *Expect students to come to class prepared. Facilitate the exploration of mathematics through problem solving. Assign homework regularly to continue learning outside of the classroom. Encourage enrichment and support at home. *Brain Boosters

Student Expectations Classroom Expectations: Come prepared Work productively with group Use class time wisely Be able to explain your thinking/process Be an active listener Homework Expectations: Turn in homework when it is due. Get work that they missed when absent. Ask for help when they need it; follow-up with questions about homework. Correct their homework and ask follow-up questions if needed.

Math Homework Homework will be assigned regularly. Homework is a self-assessment. Students will grade their own Practice in class. I record if it is completed. Many daily assignments will be tiered- A, B, or C. Assignments will be recorded in Powerschools. 1 point for daily Practice; more points awarded to assignments collected and graded. M MissingI Incomplete L Submitted LateABSAbsent ( ) Placeholder; grade not entered yet *If a grade is highlighted, there is a note attached to the grade.

Grading Policy The overall grade is weighted- 30% Progress Checks 10%: Homework 20%- Check-ups, quizzes 70% Assessments (Chapter Tests or Projects) *Grades will be updated at least every 2 weeks.

The Curriculum Math in Focus®: Singapore Math by Marshall Cavendish (Course 2) Math in Focus® is the world-class mathematics curriculum from Singapore adapted for U.S. classrooms.

The Accelerated Curriculum Math in Focus®: Singapore Math by Marshall Cavendish (Course 2 and 3) *Math 7 Extensions will be covering topics in Course 2 and Course 3 to help prepare them for Challenge Algebra. Math in Focus® is the world-class mathematics curriculum from Singapore adapted for U.S. classrooms.

Topics Covered Developing problem-solving skills and strategies Evaluating and simplifying algebraic expressions Solving algebraic equations Using proportional reasoning Constructing geometric figures Finding volumes and surface areas of cones, cylinders, and spheres Graphing data sets and analyzing statistical sampling methods Identifying events, outcomes, and sample spaces

Helpful Resources My webpage, team webpages Math Think Tank (M-F 7:35-8:05am) Powerschools my.hrw.com Textbook- most problems explored in class are in the book. Selected answers are in the back of the book. I’m here most afternoons Tuesday-Friday. I would prefer students set up a time to meet with me to work on homework.

Looking forward to a great year! Jessica Wolbert (314)
