Sherman’s Army With only about 60,000 men, surrounded by millions of enemy, Sherman's troops boldly march into the South, without any contact with the north. Many of them were armed with carbines, better than the rifle or musket of the enemy. Some of his soldiers are called bummers, his army had to live off the land, looting wherever they went.
